No smart info for /dev/sdb

Hi! I can`t see SMART info for one of my HDDs with KDE Partition Manager.

Сводка

But, as I assume, I can see it with Gnome Disk Utility.

Do I have a hardware problem?

Hi @kodirovshchik,

I don’t know what it should be, but since it looks fine when you use sudo, I’m guessing your user doesn’t belong to the necessary group.

Please post the output of

groups

Mine is

sys ftp log http games dbus network power lxd storage optical disk audio wheel mirdarthos roccat

Take note that I use KDE and not Gnome, so that might also play a role.

Regards,

Edit:

OK, never mind. Just saw your edit and I understand better, now. My answer is probably wrong, then anyway.

Thank you for your answer. I used the Gnome for a long time, but a few days ago I switched to KDE and saw this.
I have two hard drives and for the second one I can see a SMART output, but not for the first one.

For /dev/sdc it works fine.

Edit: Anyway, thanks for the answer =)

It looks like your user isn’t part of the storage group as well as the disk. That might be it, I don’t know. You can test this by adding the user to the group:

sudo usermod -aG storage <username>
sudo usermod -aG disk <username>

Where you replace <username> with your username.

Then log out, log back in, or just reboot and try again.

I did it. Still the same: one HDD with SMART info and one without it.

Try having KDE Partition manager refresh, or recheck the SMART status. It might be cached. I don’t know, but it’s logical to me.

If that doesn’t help, I’ve no idea.
