Serious problem: Manjaro does not boot anymore after update

Dear all,

I have some serious problem. I am relatively new to manjaro and installed it on my drive as single OS via usb stick. I did not have any problem for month with it but since the last update my laptop does not boot anymore. I am getting the following error message:

Error: file ‘/boot/vmlinuz-5.6-x86_64’ not found. Error: you need to load the kernel first. Failed to boot both default and fallback entries.

I was trying to solve the problem with comments I found online, but any GRUB command I found does not work for me. No internet on the laptop, just the old manjaro Version on a usb. However I would like to recover my the data, as I work with it the last months. Did anybody had the same problem? How did you fix it?

Thanks!

Have you checked the similar issues?

problem with last update ? linux56 is removed in manjaro repos
Best is to have several kernels installed and we can boot on another.

For that reason it’s essential to check announcements before updating. You get in this type of trouble if the kernel is no longer supported and you try to update.

When you see this in the announcements, install another kernel, boot into it, remove the old unsupported kernel and THEN you can update normally.

Do you have any other entry in grub menu? Can you have or can you get a Manjaro installation USB?

You probably can enter your Manjaro if you “live” edit your Manjaro entry in grub menu. When in grub menu, select your Manjaro entry with the cursor keys and press ‘e’. Then you can edit the entry. You only need to change the mentions of 5.6 to 5.7

After editing, press F10 to boot

If you don’t see your grub menu, press ESC when the grub-menu should show up (usually after a couple of seconds after your computer’s logo show up)

I think I had this similar problem a few minutes ago, upgraded kernel from 56 to 58 and Manjaro couldn’t load after reboot. Booting Manjaro from a USB and then reboot the computer without the USB solved the issue for me.
Hope it helps.
