X Server doesn't start after last update (13.12.2021)

After the latest update my xserver won’t start.
This seems similar to " [Failed to load lightdm after last update]" (I’m not allowed to use links).
Instead of using lightdm I’m using gdm. I still have access to the CLI.

I’m not very familiar with Linux, but usually I can help myself by reading and partially adapting already existing threats, but this time I’m out of my depth.
I could be the drives, but before I temper with my system and
I’ll provide any system information that is needed, but I don’t won’t to flood the threat with unnecessary

systemctl list-unit-files | grep gdm
gdm.service disabled disabled

systemctl enable gdm
Failed to enable unit: File/etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service already exists and is a symlink to /usr/lib/systemd/system/sddm.service

I have tried the same approach as in the thread I mentioned, but I get an error.

sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia 470xx

As my system is setup in German I’ll try to “translate” the error message:
removing nvidia-utils violates the dependency of nvidia-utils needed by cuda.

Hi,

There are a few NVIDIA related issues in the update announcement which may be helpful.

@NGr,

I have tried the solution about 30 seconds before you send me to the right place (still trying to figure it out by myself).
But it doesn’t work. I cant install the drivers because of dependencies. Not sure how to proceed from there

Could you remove cuda first, then install the required nvidia drivers and then reinstall cuda?

@NGr,

I have search the internet and found the solution.

This is what I had to do:

sudo pacman -R cuda
sudo mhwd -i pci video-nvidia-470xx
sudo pacman -S cuda

The xserver restarted directly after installing the drivers. I installed cuda afterwards manually.
Pretty straight forward, but I thought I would run into more trouble.

Sorry for the fuss. The information what I had to do was there (although scattered around quite a bit), but I needed the initial impulse to look into the right direction.

Thanks a lot!
