No Network Connection on live System and After installation

Helle Community,
Wien I install the Patent Manjaro I have no Connection to the Internet. Same Problem on Anarchy Linux and Ubuntu but Not Windows.
I think it has something to do Witz my mainboard and the Kernel don‘t like each other.

Is there a was to downgrade Kernel to 5.5 via usb? Or downloading an ISO with matching Kernel.

Herr are my specs Weile Testung ubuntu (without Network)
Mainboard is GA-890GPA-UD3H
Rest is in my Profile Information.

Best regards,
Cronyk

Hi!
Can you post the output of inxi -N

Hello,

you are a really lucky guy, aren’t you? If you have this chipset:

Realtek 8111D chip (10/100/1000 Mbit)

and the driver: r8169 doesn’t work (it is included in the kernel), then you need this driver: r8168 which is only available as dkms. What means, you need to compile it and restart the computer, to enable it. That is quite impossible on a live ISO.

You need to download it manually from here: Index of /stable/extra/x86_64/
That package have to fit to the running kernel. Veriosn 5.8 is this for example:

linux58-r8168-8.048.03-12-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

and install it with

sudo pacman -U /path/to/linux58-r8168-8.048.03-12-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

But it would be good to have the information @visone mentioned , but more details:

inxi -Nazy

Thank you

Hi!
I think that r8168 should be to install in manjaro settings/hardware. I don’t have that chip but I use the same driver. I don’t remember installing it

Hello,
thanks for the fast high-quality answers, I tried for about 10 hours yesterday downloading many different distros…
I finally managed enabeling a connection via USB from my phone so I can work on the solutions. I’ve read that some people hat the problem after upgrading the kernel so I installed 5.4 LTS and started it but with no difference so I thing you may be right. After work I’ll try your suggestions and output here. Thanks for help

Hello again, work’s finished:

~ >>> inxi -N

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
driver: N/A

I downloaded and installed linux58-r8168-8.048.03-12-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz

~/Downloads >>> inxi -Nazy

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
vendor: Gigabyte driver: N/A modules: r8169, r8168 port: ce00
bus ID: 03:00.0 chip ID: 10ec:8168

Edit:
But noe the System freies After 1 or 2 minutes

Strange… it loads 2 modules… i guess you have to blacklist one of them.

Create a file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and put blacklist r8168 into it. After reboot check again what has been loaded:

inxi -Nazy

If that doesn’t work blacklist r8169 like above.

That seems to be BIOS Bug. Consider to upgrade your BIOS if possible.

This is an error of PCI or PCIE. It is more a bug than anything else. BIOS is buggy. you can suppress that error with: pci=nomsi, noaer You need to add this to the grub config.

The r8168 driver can be installed with mhwd. And that is, in fact, the recommended way of doing it.

I agree… but how would someone doing this without internet connection since the ethernet connection doesn’t work?

It is like asking for pressing a key on the keyboard while the module is not working. So no function ^^

Well, as a workaround, you can enable USB tethering on your phone, that should work well.

Who knows, if he have that? Still, installing packages locally is a workaround. If he have any other connection on that computer, he would write that.

I didn’t really write my comment as a solution, I just wanted to add this bit of information. In case, let’s say it’s working using the manually installed package, s/he may want to reinstall it using mhwd.

Hello pobrn,

thanks for suggesting, I wrote in a post above I used USB on phone for connection, but thanks for suggestion
I used USB to get network done but megavolt already helped here.
Blacklisting r8168 resulted in no internet again but blacklisting r 8169 resulted in a working connection. I will test around if this solves the problem. I don’t want to perform a BIOS update if it’s not mandatory because I dont’t want to break anything completely (never done this before).

Edit: Keeps freezing
Where. exactly in grub.config should I and the line?
I will check if it also freezes under ubuntu and if I should perform a Bios Update… or should I reinstall manjaro once again and fix network via mhwd (Manjaro settings — Hardwareconfiguration — Auto Install Propitery driver?)
