"No inittab file found" error and I can't find a way to fix it

I was updating and installing some new packages in my system and after I decided to reboot I got this prompt. GRUB was working fine and I guess this is something wrong with my system installation.

INIT: version 2.88 booting
INIT: No inittab file found

Enter runlevel:

What I have found searching was this inittab file is part of a deprecated system and this error doesn't make much sense. I did what the guys at this post post suggested (I used my live USB to chroot in and update everything via pacman, ran update-grub and I even installed a new kernel). With no success.

So should I give up and reinstall or is there something else I can do to fix it?

Thanks for the help!

restart with USB install manjaro
open a terminal

manjaro-chroot -a ( select 1 if one line )
pacman -Syy ( check ip on )
pacman -Syu
mkinitcpio -P
exit ( only way to exit chroot )

then reboot

Hi Stephane, thanks for the answer!
I have already done most of that, except for the mkinitcpio -P line. I guess it's worth the time to boot up and try it :upside_down_face:.
