No display output on login screen

Hi

i got a problem where i get noch displayoutput at the loginscreen.
i have to reboot several times until i get an output.
the machine is fully booted and i can log in. the streamdeck-ui loads after login.

i run into this error even on a fresh install (full and minimal iso).
i tryed kernels 5.18 and 5.15 LTS.

its on new hardware (CPU, MB, RAM, SSD) i bought. the GPU is from the old system.

Hello,

Try to use early KMS by following this Make GRUB menu & boot-up/down fonts bigger - Manjaro

More about it here Kernel mode setting - ArchWiki
So, in your case only use the amdgpu

on the first reboot after i make that change i had no display output.

still have to boot 2-3 times to get an output.

Ok, lets start whit that. Read from here on:

@chriz So you added the driver to the initcpio and rebuild it, right?

That is a sign, that the gpu is not ready and the display-server crash because it cannot call the gpu. Early KMS should make it load early.

yes i rebuild before rebooting.

i tryed to set the m.2 to gen3 instead of gen4 to try out if something loads “to fast”

is it failing because the file can’t be saved?

ls -la

-rw-r--r-- 1 chriz chriz 5 14. Jul 18:11 user-dirs.locale

its read and write for the owner (me), should i set other permissions to the file so it can be saved during boot?

So the culprint is sddm here since you use KDE… it is the display-manager, so what you see as “login screen”.

Have look there:

journnalctl --boot -1 --unit sddm.service --no-pager

When it does not display it immediately and the service crash, try switching to another TTY, login and restart the display-manager:

sudo systemctl restart display-manager

If it works then, then a workaround could be adding extra time…

sudo systemctl edit sddm.service

and add there:

[Service]
ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/sleep 5

So wait 5 seconds before executing sddm.
