I’ve installed a few things in pacman and pamac from a few YouTube vids (only a handful).
I’m assuming the cause of my problem is the installation of intel-ucode as apparently it’s not compatible with my kernel?
(see post: solved-manjaro-kde-unable-to-boot-to-desktop-screen)
anyway, after a reboot, grub passes fine and i’m presented with a black, blank screen (plus some information line reading “/dev/sdb2: clean, 276624/12804096 files, 3440392/51200000 blocks”)
I can logon to a tty and reach a bash prompt. I have no idea what to do from here. is it a simple case of starting the kde desktop? or is there a boot script that isn’t running properly?
I’ve ran pacman -Syyu and nothing changes. pls help.
Without any informations as to what packages you installed, this does tell us nothing.
If there were no problems before installing “a few things” - remove them again to see if the problem is going away.
There is no such thing as an incompatibility between a microcode package and a kernel.
This does indicate a successful boot but with problems regarding graphics drivers and/or display manager.
I don’t think intel-ucode is responsible, but if you’re in doubt, just remove it again.
Since I only have access to the tty, I can’t give screen shots or printouts of logs. I’m using a different computer to post on this forum.
The apps that I installed was from TechHut’s video titled “Top 10 Linux Apps: Essential Software Everyone Needs”. From this vid, I installed: Stacer, SimpleNote and NotePadQQ
From this short list, I “assume” that the only app that would effect booting is Stacer since it tracks/monitors system resources.
I have just installed neofetch so that I can copy/type pc info: (please bear with, as I’m having to type this out… )

Apologies. I did not mean that I shouldn’t have intel-ucode installed. I meant I shouldn’t have the up-to-date version installed. This point is kinda mute tho since according to your opinion, my system has booted but is having issues with the graphical desktop. which makes sense, but I’m still noob.
I really don’t want to have to type out the whole of the printout that i get from running the inxi command!
I will type out some info on request, but I don’t know what info is needed.
Regarding my graphics:
Display: server: X.org 1.20.11 driver: loaded: vesa tty:N/A
How would I start my desktop?
just noticed that I have no drives mounted! That can’t be right, can it? these commands that I’m running are programs on a drive and they all can’t be inside GRUB, right? Have I got to remount some/all of these drives before I can boot normally?
Snippet from inxi command:
After looking at these lines, am I correct in thinking that these are the partitions on my winblows drive that is used because I dual boot? That would mean that this info is useless and I shouldn’t have wasted time typing these out…
I did have timeshift installed before this happened. I restored to a previous point, but I still get a blank screen with that one line at the top. it is from here that I can access tty.
Please tell me what info you need to fix my problem. I just want it to boot like it did after the initial install of Manjaro without having to reinstall the whole OS again.
Although it’s easy to create a video, it’s hard to keep the video updated and you’re on a rolling release model, so any video older than the last update is probably outdated. Anythhing older than 1 year is useless.
copy-paste my-inxi.txt here as that would be the minimum required information for us to be able to help you. (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
Also, please copy-paste that output in-between 3 backticks ``` at the beginning and end of the code/text.
I was doing a bit of experimentation/investigation.
i did sudo kde and was told sudo: kde: command not found
I did sudo startkde and was told sudo: startkde: command not found
I did sudo startx and was told

from this, I assume that I should not be booting in UEFI mode even tho I installed in UEFI mode. Nani?!
The Manjaro telepathy module is still under heavy development by the Manjaro team and therefore our ability to link our brains directly to your computer is severely limited for the moment. Therefore, If you don’t know, we don’t know either…
I assume that I’m currently in tty4. I don’t know how to get to tty2.
running startx in tty4 fails.

so, i assume, installing the other video modes caused a conflict so Xserver shrugged it’s shoulders say “…well I dunno what you want to load cos you’ve got all of them! which one is correct?”
