Night Light no longer working

Turning the night light On/Off or adjusting the slider has no effect.
I recently updated to Qonos & then to kernel 5.16
Today I installed KdenLive - not sure if that has affected video.

EDIT feb22: I found the issue: NIghtlight does not work if you have AUTO login.

user was not part of video group, so i added myself. There was no effect:

cat /etc/group | grep video

What about 5.15 ?

I dont have that kernel installed (5.15 doesn’t have my wifi driver & I have no access to ethernet)

Today it is ‘magically’ working again if I change to manual for the sunset trigger. I’ll wait till actual sunset & see what the auto setting does today.
Last night when I noticed this, I rebooted several times, & tried a different gnome distro (which worked). So its odd that it would start working again.
Ill try to be mindful of what other software might be triggering this effect.

Very odd.
Nightlight has failed to trigger again today & no amount of rebooting or shutdowns will activate the nightlight again. The system panel says it is ON, but there is no orange tint no matter what the setting.
Why would it work fine for the last 3 days & then refuse to work again.

Its almost as if certain days of the week it wont work ~ i suppose it is a time related effect, perhaps there is a maths or timezone bug.

Jan 30th it refused to work, then inexplicably fine for the next few days, now Feb 3rd it refuses to work again.

Update: Today (Feb 4th) it is now working again.
I did notice that another issue I have, with login after sleep stalling, caused the screen colour to change (white/orange) during the login/logout - so I think they might be related somehow.

Update (Feb 8th) after 4 days without issue, Night Light has now stopped working again.
Several further reboots do not bring it back

Update (Feb 10) I discovered that logging out & immediately back in seems to fix the nightlight for the current session.

  • I think NIghtlight does not work if you have AUTO login. With auto login OFF I have not had the issue for a while. Maybe someone else can check?
