NetworkManager state change causes log spam every hour

I’ve been living for this for quite some time, but even though I have have set ~1 month leases on my DHCP server, every hour on the nose, it says there is a state change and the DHCP lease renews. This is also a wired CAT6 interface pretty close to the switch. And I’m confident this is not a hardware issue.

The most notable change from a default install regarding this, is I use a bridged interface for QEMU. But this all works perfectly fine, and has been for about 2 years. But the OCD part of me really wants to get rid of this log spam.

This must be something simple I’m missing, since I’ve gone through thousands of package and kernel updates even relating to this over the last 2 years on this install. Searching for hours on end has not helped me solve this. I thought into going into looking at all the possible NetworkManager.conf options would help. But I’m still stumped.

Any ideas?

I may of brushed over this a little quickly, inferring that this is only log spam.

For me to get everything working from the 5.15 to the 6.1 LTS kernel was a lot of work, the early 6.1 LTS versions were impossible to get everything working. Booting into my window manager, sure. But not what I needed to do from there.

I primarily use QEMU with VFIO/IOMMU (among many other only official Manjaro packages), and I do need this bridged interface. But now with the 6.1 kernel, which I thought I had 100% working, I experience random network sluggishness. At first I didn’t notice it, since it’s rare. But it was not there before. There are no errors/warnings in the host or guests relating to this. And I’m now in the process of logging all this while benchmarking the network, from the guests and host.

Eliminating this state change every hour, I thought was a good next step in troubleshooting this.

I’ve used NetworkManager in guests and workstations/laptops in the past plenty, but never for my main PC that hosts all my guests, or any server for that matter. (I’ve been running on this Manjaro install using NetworkManager fine for around 2 years). So I thought I’d reach out here for any ideas.

I might throw these up in case they are related …

And ask if you use ipv6 and/or have you tried disabling it?

Been through hundreds (or possibly more) like it. Seems completely unrelated, at least to me anyway.

It’s enabled and working, but personally my apps  rarely use it. I guess that’s worth a shot.
