Network only works on restart

Hi. I recently bought a refurbished Dell Optiplex 7010. I installed Manjaro 20 and everything is fine, but the network only becomes available on a restart. If I boot cold - no network. If I restart - I get a network connection. I’ve used Manjaro for years, but this has got me a bit baffled. It almost sounds like a timing issue. Anyways, here’s some specs - if they help. Thanks for any help.

Hello,

I recommend switching the kernel to a supported one and not EOL.
Try the 5.12 for example, or 5.4 as is LTS.

Still no network on boot - only on restart.

Any others suggestions?

I think it may have to do with the BIOS. The computer has an integrated NIC. In the BIOS, there are options for the Integrated NIC:

Disabled
Enabled
Enabled w/PXE
Enabled w/ImageServer

If I set it to Disabled or Enabled while doing a restart - I don’t get a network connection. If I choose Enabled w/PXE while doing a restart - I get a network connection.

Does this sound like anything useful?

Maybe you have to go by this, and don’t touch the BIOS settings

The problem did seem to be BIOS related. We had a bad storm, last, and I unplugged our router and computer. This morning, as the computer was booting, I noticed that the BIOS was searching for a DHCP network address. When I logged into Manjaro, I had a network connection.

I suggest to always look into the settings of the BIOS, that’s one of the most important thing I always forget when I have problems which is not resolved by drivers, scripts or etc. On my Lan Problem above, the issue was existing on the bios since I am using an HP laptop now vs asus last time which has no much of an option, i believe It was Aptio and I was overwhelmed on using a new brand of Laptop and they differ in in BIOS, my old bios has no network control while this hp one has. Unless the drivers are confirmed to be working and not BIOS related one, you might just have a hardware issue after all which can be diagnosed my swapping something known to be functional.
