When I try to open Nautilus as root, I get - admin:///
Failed to show the contents of this folder. The specified address is not supported.

I do believe they have removed that option in version 40.
Have you tried doing pkexec nautilus?

The gvfs version 1.48 broke the admin backend in GNOME.
You can downgrade the Package and it’s dependencies to version 1.46.
It is fixed.
