Will Manjaro use the pre-installed Windows EFI partition?

Hello Community

Will Manjaro use the pre-installed Windows EFI partition?

Thank you :grinning:

Personally, I don’t like that. I would create a separate partition for this.

I’d recommend you take a look at the installation guide first so you make an informed decision on how to proceed according to your system configuration.

As I know, if you choose the default “along Windows installation” setup then it will choose the SSD of Windows. You are better off, if you do a manual partitioning and install it then.

For my laptop with two drives the installer auto selects the second drive and the same drive for Manjaro’s EFI partition. During installation choose Erase disk (on the selected storage device).

Two drives in a laptop gives you an advantage for dual booting so best to avoid installing alongside Windows. If Linux EFI entries end up on Windows’ EFI partition either by accident or intentionally, Linux will boot but there’s a high probability you’ll lose the distro’s EFI directory, usually after Windows Update re-formats the partition. It’s really a matter of when, not if this will happen, and it’s a hassle to repair.
