I dont know specifically the hardware that is installed but according to Hp Website, device has Intel 82579LM / V.

Ip link only shows
1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00

Solution:

  • Installed e1000e driver that needed to be installed,
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/e1000e-dkms/

  • Reinstall dkms and linux header 54 corresponds to my current kernel version

    uname -r
    sudo pacman -Syu linux-headers

  • went into BIOS to disable Wake-on-LAN

  • Re-enable LAN Controller from BIOS

  • modprobe e1000e after driver installation

Some diagnostic output after it started working:

Executing ip address now gives:

1: lo: <LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 65536 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eth0: <NO-CARRIER,BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000
link/ether brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
4: wlan0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc mq state UP mode DORMANT group default qlen 1000
link/ether brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

The output of lspci now is:

00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (Lewisville) (rev 04)
Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 179b
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 33

Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: e1000e
Kernel modules: e1000e
