Mute does not persist at sleep/hibernation/boot

The audio mute functionallity is not functioning as I would expect.
When muting the audio using the mute funcitionality, not setting volume to 0%, and putting the device to sleep/hibernation or rebooting the system the system unmutes and resumes at the previous volume level unmuted when woken up/once booted onto the login screen. This get’s annoying quickly when using the device intermittently waking it up from sleep every so often as the audio keeps reseting here.
This has been the case since the manjaro installation on my system.

It is hard to find any advice on the web regarding forcing Plasma 6 to mute when started. There doesn’t seem to be anything obvious in System Settings.

However, after looking at this thread on KDE Discuss, I wonder if you might have Plasma set to play a sound when you login. If it is enabled, disabling the login sound might prevent the audio from being unmuted when you login.

You can check via System Settings → Notifications → Configure for System (at the top right of the page). Scroll down and see if “Play a sound” is enabled for Login (and possibly Logout too):

If it is enabled, disable it, save the change & see if it works. If it doesn’t, it could also be related to another notification (such as “Device plugged in” if you have something attached to your device, such as an external drive).

If that doesn’t work, you could also see if disabling all notification sounds via System Settings → Colors & Themes → System Sounds works. However, you may find that option inconvenient as you won’t hear important alerts, even when your audio is not muted.

If neither of the above resolves the issue, then a more detailed look at your system may be required.

Please provide the output of:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form (preferred):

inxi -zv8
Running `inxi` in `chroot`
Providing `inxi` when you cannot access your desktop environment

Note that any code or command output (such as inxi output) should be placed within a scrollable pre-formatted text enclosure according to forum guidelines.

See here for instructions:

[MiniHowTo] Present code or command output

Note: Grave accent (or, backtick) characters are used. :eyes:

For inline code or to show a single command:

  • for example, typing: `code here` will display the text as code here.

For multi-line command output:

  • place text beween two rows of three (```) backtick characters to form a scrollable text box, or …
  • use the </> button in the Compose window to achieve the same result.

The empty row between these rows of backtick characters is where to paste any multi-line command output (such as inxi).

An example of a pre-formatted text enclosure:

What is a Quark?

A. In Physics, an elementary particle and fundamental constituent of matter.
B. A character from the Star Trek: "Deep Space Nine" television series.
C. A soft, creamy, usually unsalted cheese traditional to central Europe.

I’ve checked, both login and logout sounds are disabled

I have tried both themes that come up here with the “Enable notification sounds” option on and off, neither fix the issue

Have you checked the (advanced) settings for your Activities?

I assume you mean kde activites which are found under “Apps & Windows” in system settings. I do not use activities so there is only the default activity and also I can’t find advanced settings for it

If you click the default Activity in System Settings, you will see options there with respect to sleep and hibernation, as well as how multimedia must be handled.

This is everything shown when clicking on the default activity. From my understanding these options shouldn’t be relevant here.
