Stuck at recovering journal, fsck gives error e2fsck

So first of all, I am new to Linux and don’t have a large experience about it. I also dual booted manjora with windows for exactly those cases and for gaming.
The problem, when I installed manjora and everything was working, I made a update to different things I can’t really remember. It was just a lot and after the update I restarted my pc and there I was stuck at recovering Journal.
I researched and find out that it could maybe be vesa, but it wasn’t because it doesn’t even exist when I tried to deinstall it. Just to say it took me 1 and half hours to just open a tty, because alt+CTRL+f3 didn’t work. So you maybe see my knowledge in Linux.
Then I tried the fsck -a command from the Arch wiki. But it said the my /dev/nvme1n1p6 is mounted and gave the error e2fsck.
I followed the instructions of what to do when the error code e2fsck happens and find out the directory by the mount command. It says /dev/nvme1n1p6 on / type ext4 (rw, noatime). I typed it in without the last bracket so the rw, noatime and it’s says unmount: /: target busy. and a line under umount: type: no mount point specified And for ext4 The same.

You cannot fsck a mounted filesystem, and considering that it’s your root filesysem that needs checking, you cannot unmount it. In other words, you’ll need to boot up from the install medium in live mode and check the filesystem from there, without mounting anything.

That said however, just because the system gets stuck during the boot process doesn’t mean that the reason it gets stuck has anything to do with the verbose messages on the screen. But in this case, it might. So best is to check the root filesystem from within the live session of the installer.

Wait, kinda confused. So you saying I should boot up from mine install medium, so that would be my usb drive with manjora right?? And also does that mean I would reinstall manjora? I know it’s a pretty dumb question but I am kinda confused.

Correct, yes.

No, not at all. The install medium has a live mode, whereby you can use a Manjaro system for testing without needing to install anything. This live system runs off the USB (or CD/DVD) and has all the necessary tools on board for repairing your system.

P.S.: It’s Manjaro, not “Manjora”. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry for miss typing, I am doing it on my phone.
So I am not sure if I am doing it right, because I am using it now on my usb, but I am not sure where exactly I should go to fix the problem. So into manjaro itself ore go to terminal. I know I am not smartest now.

Open up a terminal window. There you can issue the fsck command.

sudo su -
fsck -C -t ext4 /dev/nvme1n1p6

Ok, sorry it took so long. So I did what you said and it gave me the same response I response when the problem happend:
fsck from until-Linux 2.37.2
e2fsck 1.46.4
/dev/nvme1n1p6: clean 295648/2883584 files, 3592623/11520000 blocks

But what is the problem? You’re not being very clear about that.

/dev/nvme1n1p6: clean, 295648/2883584 files, 3592623/11520000 blocks
This is what I see when I try booting into manjaro without usb. I am not sure if it is a process because the number went up. 3 hours ago I made a picture and it went up by 8 file and some blocks. I don’t know if it a process ore what, but if it takes longer I will just reinstall manjora because I didn’t have anything important on it.

That’s just the normal filesystem check at boot time. If you do not want to see that, then edit /etc/default/grub, look for the line that says…

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="udev.log_priority=3"

… or something similar, and add the word “quiet” to that line, so that it looks more or less like this…

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet udev.log_priority=3"

Then save the file and run…

sudo update-grub

… in a terminal window.

I think (…speculation, from what was said so far)
that this is simply the only and last message you see
before the system then fails to start the display manager.

It’s not an error - just a message, and not the cause of your problem.

That symptom is often related with graphics card drivers - but that is all I can say.

Yea I think that makes sense, I have property driver because I have a Nvidia 3070 and I think I will just reinstall manjaro. It’s the easiest way without spending to much time.

Ok I finally found the problem, it was the Nvidia drivers and when I reinstall manjaro, same thing happened again. I found the solution in this Reddit post. The code I should run pacman -S linux510 linux510-nvidia Problem is, it should work, but it has an error and no idea how to fix it.

Its output will be used to detect bootable binaries on them and create new boot entries.
grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sdb1,
Check your device, map.

Your card, using or needing that driver, might not be supported anymore.
Or not with this kernel version.
We don’t know anything about your hardware.
Or perhaps the “code you should run” is incorrect … wrong driver?

I think, the output you posted above is o.k.
At least it’s got nothing to do with your graphics card driver.

So I am using a 3070, with amd cpu and running it on a ssd.

that is very sparse info
please look (search) for “how to provide good information”

We don’t know what you don’t tell us
and effective help depends on information
else it stays in the realm of pure speculation.
