Microphone stopped working

Hey everyone, so my microphone (just a pair of earbud put through a splitter to plug into my microphone jack) was working fine up until a faw days ago, but now when I record sound, all I get is uniform, high frequency noise.

I looked through Advanced Linux Sound Architecture/Troubleshooting - ArchWiki but couldn’t find anything that helped, so I’m wondering if someone here can help me figure out what’s going wrong.

Here is my pacmd list-sources:

Where up and down [n] adjust volume in ±n % increments
Where mute toggles the mute status on/off
Where mute-input toggles the input status on/off
Where set set the volume to [n] %
Where atmost only takes effect if current volume is higher than [n]
Where full-status prints volume level, sink and source mute state to stdout

Optionally, redefine an upper threshold in /home/mason/.config/pulseaudio-ctl/config

Bump

Bumping is against the rules. This is your first and only warning. Next time, your post will be closed without further notice.

Having said that: Did you try another piece of hardware already? (I.E. not another pair of headphones)

Apologies for that, I had missed that rule.

Well now I feel dumb. I didn’t have another mic on hand to try before, but I just grabbed a new one from the store and the problem is indeed a hardware one. Thank you for the suggestion.
