Microphone of Headphone not detected on HP Pavilion 550

Hi everyone, I recently try the headphone that i use on my phone in my pc and I notice that the Microphone is not detected…

If I go to “Audio” in plasma settings I see this:

I also tried with PulseAudio and I got this…

or the microphone is not correctly detected

what make of phone are using the headset from?
a mobile phone headset may have a different wiring standard to the microphone/headset jack on this system - Headphone Microphone Not Detected

If microphone worked on another OS it is not likely to be a problem with jack wiring

Headset Mic has level set to 0 and capture is not turned on

I suggest adjust this setting in alsamixer to get the correct microphone level and turn on audio capture

alsamixer --card=0 --view=Capture

use → to locate ‘Headset Mic’

↓ and ↑ to adjust audio level

and Spacebar to turn audio capture on or off

Also suggest you find Input Source 1 and change that from Headset Mic to Line
Input Source 0 is correctly set for audio capture from Headset Mic
microphone may not work so well connected to both audio subdevices

alsamixer appears to be better for microphone to work
+20.0dB from headset boost and +12.0dB from Capture 0 might be a bit high
but it should now show some activity in Pulseaudio level meters

if Pulseaudio is still not showing microphone audio

adjusting ALSA settings is showing no change in Pulseaudio
there is still only the 2 monitor sinks

no sign of the microphone/line-in input - alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo

Suggest you install package alsa-tools and use the tool hdajacksensetest to check if microphone and headphones are detected when the headset jack is plugged in

Use this command with headset plugged in and again with headset unplugged

sudo hdajacksensetest --card=0

Please also post response to

there might be a known hardware problem for this model of laptop

This desktop system appears to have only a headphone jack on the front panel

Motherboard 2B47 (Odense) appears to have been used in many different HP desktop systems
(lots of different model numbers for HP Pavilion/Envy 550)

This forum post confirms that similar HP desktop systems only have a headphone jack
HP Pavilion desktops headphone and microphone input - tenforums.com
the symbol for either headphone or headset should be visible

you probably need a splitter cable to connect headset to Pink Mic, Rear side and either Green Line Out, Rear side or Black Headphone, Front side

Does your system have the full model number shown on the case?

As already stated, most of these desktop models only have a headphone jack
Finding the correct model number is needed to eliminate false-positive results for other models
HP appears to have many desktop models using the same motherboard
and as is usual for HP, there is no specific website information to confirm the type of front jack is included

nikgnomic meant the exact HP Pavilion model number on the bottom of your case on a plastic label…

Actions to take:

shut down machine
turn upside down
write down model number.
type model number as a response after turning back on.

The model number allows me to find the correct support page for your system, instead of looking at random support pages for similar models that do not have headset support
HP Pavilion 550-206nl Desktop PC Product Specifications
but it does not have any more information than usual HP support

No results on websearch for correct system model number
or audio codec ALC3863-CG
or VendorID:ProductID [103c:2b47]
Nothing about any previous bug reports or even a hardware scan
No trace of another Manjaro user with similar hardware

All I can suggest is to try activating unconnected pins on the audio codec to see if any of them work with the front panel jack

sudo hdajackretask --card=0

enable the Option - Show unconnected pins

Find the unconnected pin Pin ID: 0x1c ; enable Override and select Microphone from the drop-down list

click Install Boot Override

exit hdajackretask and reboot system

then check if the retasked headset jack is recognised in hdajacksensetest

Pin 0x1c seems to be the most likely connection for front microphone, relative to the other pin connections in use
but If hdajacksensetest does not recognise the jack connection
run hdajackretask again and click Remove boot override
and try retasking one of the other unconnected pins instead:

I have not one of these pin…
I have: 0x1a (not connected), 0x1b (Blue in), 0x1d (not connected), 0x1e (not connected)
then i have from 0x14 to 0x16 not connected and 0x17 (Black Headphone, Front side).

I have also 0x19 (not connected) and 0x18 (Pink Mic) 0x21(Green Line out)
