Microphone doesn't work

Two mics show up, but neither appears to hear anything when I test in the Settings. It also doesn’t work for Zoom.

Hi. A few thoughts, that might be zero use but here’s hoping…

How much have you messed around with your audio settings? Keep trying different combos.
Your kernel - do you have a back-up installed? If not, consider installing an LTS kernel like 5.10 or 5.4.
Lastly, is this a new install or has your mic suddenly stopped working, where it was fine before?

I hope you find a solution soon.

R

I’m not sure what combos I would try. There are only two devices listed and neither works unless you mean something else. I don’t have a backup installed and I had to install that kernel to get suspend to work properly. It hasn’t worked since the relatively recent new install. Thank you.

Hi. Regarding audio setting combos to try, I don’t know if you use PulseAudio, ALSA and/or something else to control volume, sources, outputs & other settings. Sometimes my settings have glitched & it has taken a lot of messing around with the settings to get my headset working, for example. That might not be the solution to this issue but it should at least be excluded. All the best…

Take a look here:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture

INone of that seemed to help unfortunately. The device is listed, volume is up, and unmuted. I tried a capture with arecord, but no playback.
