MHWD is in conflict with AMDGPU-PRO from AUR

Hi all,

I’ve been trying to download and install AMDGPU-PRO from the AUR, however I keep running into a problem. When I try to install the driver it tells me that MHWD is in conflict. I can’t remove MHWD without pulling my hair out, so is there a solution to get around this? I would rather not have to dual-boot in order to play games.

Yes. Be patient and wait for the dens to make amdgpu-pro compatible with mhwd. If you want to use amdgpu-pro right now, then try another distro.

I recommend pacbang if you absolutely can’t wait.

So, as of now there is no workaround?

You can not just install driver from AUR. You can but it’s not recommended. Currently AMDGPU is still not ready in Manjaro. So, sadly there’s no workaround yet.

mhwd provides libgl and lib32-libgl, that is why it conflicts. We have a workaround. However you may need to reinstall mhwd later if you want to drop amdgpu-pro at any point:

sudo pacman -Rdd mhwd

I thought Carl dropped development of PacBang?..

I was told that pacbang will continue to work for some time to come. Architect is most immediately affected as that is the installer. Pacbang is similar to o0penbox manjaro and is self contained/offline install. Architect uses online installer i believe and pulls from the repos and is, i assume, dependent on current keys and repos when installing. Whereas with pacbang, as with manjaro, those things can be updated manually after installation. I still use manjaro openbox installer from 2014. It still works. Just update repos and keys and whamo! Up to date openbox manjaro.

Thanks for the info, Lizzi. Architect still works well and it always pulls in current keys. I used it just two days ago. Is the 2014 Manjaro OB the one with the (I think it was called) Turbulence post-install procedure? I thought that was arguably the coolest OB install around then, and now.

I really miss OB, but I like the finer grained control over my BT speaker that Plasma has. I know I could obtain that in OB with a little effort, too, but I’m getting lazy in my old age.

Regards

Well, see my understand is limited with the architect side of things as you can tell. I have no idea how that installe works as is apparent but i do use pacbang quite a lot. I have no fears for pacbang.
