[MATE 1.20] mate-settings-daemon unable to start

After the update to MATE 1.20, MSD isn’t starting. This can be seen when launching e.g. Keyboard Shortcuts:

I’ll do some digging. A search for “mate-settings-daemon 1.20” on the Arch forums turns up nothing so far. I don’t think it’s MATE 1.20 itself as I have it running fine on an Ubuntu 16.04 system.

Edit: ah, it’s HiDPI stuff:

(mate-settings-daemon:18501): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.mate.interface' does not contain a key named 'window-scaling-factor'

There’s a patch in Ubuntu’s Bionic packages. I’ll dig that out this afternoon.

Yeah. the HiDPI stuff was a big addition in MATE 1.20.
It’s weird they haven’t caught this somehow. Don’t they test on Arch machines too? :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, turns out this was due to an overlay package, mate-desktop-1.18-1.1.

I’ve removed that from the overlays so mate-desktop-1.20-1 will be picked up.

This will be why there wasn’t an issue in Arch.

Makes sense.

Maybe there is a reason for the overlay package, that @Ste74 needs to look at again?

Looking at the changes:

I think it was just a legacy from us building the GTK3-based packages ahead of Arch.
