Many Keyboard backlight levels needed

My laptop keyboard has only two brightness levels. I want it to have many brightness levels so that i could reduce the brightness to comfort my eyes. I personally find light very stressful on my eyes. I think that keyboards should come with atleast five brightness levels. How can i add more levels in keyboard light brightness? I am using:

The Lenovo ThinkPad L16 Gen 1 has two levels of keyboard brightness in addition to being off. You can cycle through the three modes using the Fn and Spacebar keys.

The brightness levels are:

  • Low (dim)

  • High (bright)

  • Off (no backlight)

You cannot create more with software or configuration.

Why? Is it restriction in my LED hardware?

It could be a limitation of the hardware or firmware. You’d have to ask the manufacturer, or reverse engineer the hardware.

You could check the UEFI to see if there’s an option to change the brightness levels, but I’ve never heard of an option like that.

Personally, I would suggest buying a small USB LED lamp instead… have a gentle light source which doesn’t glare on the screen which will give you a comfortable pool of light where you type.

Backlit keys look nice in the dark, but it’s best to work in dim lighting, such that you can see without getting eyestrain.

Interestingly there is a setting for it in KDE Plasma

This even works in the sense that i get my 2 levels set with it. So the 1st level goes from 25% to 74%, and the 2nd one from 75% to 100%. From 0% to 24% it is off. However since this setting is there maybe there are really keyboards supporting more than just two levels?
