Manjaro xserver performance / framerate

I use the proprietary Nvidia-Linux drivers and have adjusted both Nvidia-settings and the Xfce display settings to refresh at 144hz.

I can only see 60fps at max when using the OS Xorg graphical and window manager. When I got a fast refresh monitor, I only noticed that it looks very smooth when using Microsoft Windows, but I can’t seem to get Manjaro XFCE to have a high smooth framerate.

Am I missing something? Thanks!

by XFCe you mean xfwm4 compositor.
How are you checking xfwm fps? (I run glxgears on console with vsync).
