Manjaro won't boot after update -- can't switch TTY

That is one of the flaws of this kind of storage media, you can actually physically harm them by forcing a shutdown when they are doing particular things (think of it like you are pulling out a usb stick while in the middle of writing, you can do “pysical” harm to it). Sux, but it is what it is. It is not guaranteed to destroy your drive but you should REALLY avoid ctrl+alt+del unless you REALLY have to, in any circumstance.
