Manjaro to Vehicle PC

Hello,

I am novice with Manjaro but have some experience with other Linux distros.

I have got an old vehicle PC with Intel Celeron, SIM slot, GPS, external antenna and touch screen (I couldn’t put here link to specs). Thinking about to use it for navigation. Now it has Windows 7 and couple of unnecessary apps. I have planned to install Manjaro and some navigation app (any suggestions?).

Suspicious about GPS and SIM. Can Manjaro handle them? Or is this mission impossible?

Thanks!

Hi,
by vehicle pc, do you mean a Personal Navigation Assistant (PNA) by chance, or did you literally removed a pc from a car?

In any case, the question is not so much how manjaro supports it, but how good the linux support with that device it. I would suggest you start with a live session, by booting manjaro from an usb-stick and then take it from there.

Good luck!

It is PC which is used in trucks, taxis, ambulances, forest machines, mining vehicles etc.

You will have to take a look at this articles:

Thank you for your help! I’ll try with these hints.

I tried Manjaro without success. PC started from USB stick. Text GRUB appeared and disappeared. Nothing happened after that. Just plain black screen. Tried with 32 bit and 64 bit versions. I tested USB stick with another normal PC too.

What happens after GRUB text? Does it need network connection? Very likely SIM card is not working then.
