Manjaro hanging while booting - ACPI Error?

First - am I posting this in the correct category? Sorry if the answer is no.

Anyway, I am on the manjaro stable branch (Kernel version 6.18.38-1-MANJARO), and updated last Monday (the 13th). However, since this update, I have been having persistent issues with booting.

I have manjaro installed on an encrypted external SSD, which I boot into from a laptop via a USB connection. The laptop was purchased from on amazon (third-party, chinese, provided as-is with no warrentry, etc.), and came with windows 10 (and, of course, no BIOS support). Admittedly this was a bad choice, but I was kind of broke at the time (still am!).

I performed my last update via sudo pacman -Syu in in the tty, and ran the install-grub and update-grub scripts provided by manjaro to ensure that the grub bootloader was in-sync with any upstream changes in the OS.

After booting into windows (secure boot disabled by the way!), I connect my drive, and after entering my key and letting the boot start, the process often hangs indefinitely. This time it was okay, but the last time it was not, so:

Does this help narrow it down?

I do not think updating my BIOS is a realistic prospect, given my computer’s provenance. Is there some workaround on the manjaro side of things? I would have thought so, given that I have only been experiencing this issue after the update.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

To me the log errors seem unimportant. Most are false alsrms. Even if the last 2 are indeed relevat they should have affected the pci bus and not usb, but who knows…have you compared with a successful boot if the errors are the same?

Also, make sure the disk is connected to the fastest possible port, with a good cable, since this can be a bottleneck too.

But other than that i have no ideas, sorry :man_shrugging:

Thank you for pointing this out! I checked the male end of the USB and did see it was a bit grimy. After cleaning and a few tests I can now confirm this was the issue - the timing with the last stable update was coincidental.
