Manjaro Doesn't Boot/Freezes When External Monitor is Connected

Hi folks,

I can’t seem to find an answer to this issue, but I’m fairly sure I’m not the only one. If I reboot my machine with my external monitor connected, my machine freezes on the Manjaro EFI bootloader screen. The keyboard is unresponsive and the countdown timer on the bootloader display at the bottom is stuck on 5 seconds. This happens regardless of what Manjaro DE I choose. In fact, I have a separate boot of Zorin OS too and the same thing happens.

I’m fairly sure it has something to do with the video card driver. There doesn’t seem to be any proprietary drivers available as far as I can tell and I’m not sure how I can change to a different driver. FYI - I do have a USB-C adapter plugged in with 4 USB ports and an HDMI port because my laptop doesn’t have one built in. This works fine on Windows so I’m sure that’s not the issue. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Does anyone have a solution to this issue? Thanks!

In my case the issue is linked with ACPI loop back because it couldnt provide power to all the display
