Manjaro Crashes on the home screen while trying to install it

Hello,

I am currently trying to install Manjaro KDE on my desktop PC as my new daily driver. Everything seemed to work just fine, but once I reached the home screen for the first time my PC restarted after about 5 seconds. I tried both open source and proprietary drivers but neither worked. My last try to boot into TTY with “nomodeset” did not work. (I am unsure if it worked before (I tried so much))
I have tried to install Fedora Kinoite too which had a bunch of problems that I tired to solve with ChatGPT; here “nomodeset” did work and I was able to install a headless version of Fedora but I was never able to make it to the home screen for longer than a second. So I thought maybe it was a Fedora problem so I switched to Manjaro, which worked better, way less problems but still a crash on the home screen and no way to install the system.
I got two error messages: “call_irq_handler: X.55 No iqr handler” and “ACPI Error: AE_NOT_FOUND”

My specs are:
CPU: AMD FX 8120 (overclocked)
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 390
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology GA-78LMT-USB3
BIOS Version: Award Software International, Inc. F4, 19.10.2012 (SMBIOS-Version 2.4)

Do you think it is possible to install a new Linux Distro with KDE Desktop on my Hardware? Or is my system just too old by now?

Thank you very much for your help.

PS: I tried both Wayland and X11 both didn’t work.

Please provide system information as described (below).

Regards.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer.
I was able to run a headless version with the command systemd.unit=multi-user.target

So I ran inxi --filter --verbosity=8 and I just postet the outcome at the end of this post, I am unsure how else to provide this information. After I had the information I unmounted my usb and used lspci -k | grep -A 3 VGA which told me that it is using the radeon drivers. Then I forced it to use the amdgpu drivers then started the GUI with sudo systemctl isolate graphical.target which then promptly crashed and restarted. So I wanted to boot into the headless version again to also log the errors from that crash but I was not ablt to boot anymore as seen in the following, which then didn’t start Manjaro in TTY.

You are in rescue mode. After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, or "exit" to continue bootup.

Cannot open access to console, the root account is locked. See sulogin(8) man page for more details.

Press Enter to continue.

As I said I am unsure how else to provide the information so I pasted it here. If you have a better idea please let me know and I will adjust.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer. So I went into the TTY again as described above, connected to the internet and the used the sudo pacman -Qkk filesystem linux-firmware command and then used sudo pacman -Sy and sudo pacman -S linux-firmware which told me the firmware is up to date, but I reinstalled it anyways. I also checked for the amdgpu drivers and they were up to date, but I still reinstalled them. Then I used the manjaro architect to install manjaro on my system and rebooted. It started but same problem as described, it crashed on the lock screen after just a few seconds
