Manjaro 32 Bit will not start from today

Of course I see the acer logo and bios logo and then the system starts boot of the USB because I choosed the usb first on BIOS and yes I’m on windowz 10 rn and it sucks

there was a great tool to make a bootable live USB but I can’t remember its name

I don’t think my ssd is broken

It maybe an unpopular opinion on this forum, but I have no issues with Windows. I prefer linux, and really like arch distributions, but i use Windows PCs all the time and they get the job done.

Back to the issue at hand:

  • you see the Acer logo – good
  • you start the USB boot because you chose it – good
  • What do you see then?

As I’ve said before;

I can use the arrows

Default
Try Bodhi Linux without installing
bla bla
bla

I choose to try for sure and then it will not load system files for me to try it I mean I can’t see the Bodhi Linux desktop

Okay, then I would have to say it sounds like something is broken with your old system and it wasnt related to updates or anything.

Does your Bodhi Linux usb work on the windows system you created it on? Are they both desktops?

IF yes, and yes, are you comfortable using youtube and doing some research? What you will need to look up is how to move your disk from your broken computer and install it in your Windows system.

you may find your old disk will simply boot and work on the windows system if you disconnect your windows disk and connect your linux… but otherwise you can connect both and use the boot usb to access both…

Yeah, what I don’t understand is why this happened for no reason? Maybe they did something I mean @philm shut it down or something or it’s all about GRUB I don’t know

I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it man it hurts my brain rn

Basically, if you see the boot process on a live-usb start but not finish, and you have tried 3 different distributions, I would have to conclude that the issue has nothing to do with linux or anything related to changes in Manjaro. Of course I am remote and working 2nd hand through your eyes and hands, so who knows, but Puppy linux is based on debian. Manjaro is based on arch. About the only thing further apart in the linux world is LFS.

there is more you can do to try and test, but my next step would be move the disk with critical data into a known-working computer.

I will but I need a cable to connect it through usb

can you describe your two computers? Are they desktops? Laptops? one of each?

both are laptops asus and acer

Okay… so both are 2.5" disks… SSD or spinning but if they are recent (last 10+ years) they both are SATA.

If you look up “teardown” videos for both, i bet you can move the disk from the Acer into the Asus and see if it boots.

Both Acer and asus have fairly friendly laptops to upgrades and access to components (except in ones like the Asus T300 CHI – which i broken the screen on recently… :frowning: )

Or you can buy a 2.5" HD - USB from Amazon or other retailers quite cheap…

Thank you very much man

I appreciate it

It’s no problem for me. I have received so much help from these types of forums and while I cannot help with somebody trying to figure out Xrandr settings for fixing overscan of thier TV… I have been repairing electronics for years… so helping where I can is my way of paying back the community and I’ve been using Linux since Slackware was a thing and Kernel 1.9 was new…

Truly I have a multi-meter in front of me right now torn apart and I am replacing a few burnt out components.

Back to the issue at hand. How can I help you? What are you comfortable doing? There are other options we can explore – such as a windows USB disk, Data recovery (non GUI) USB boot options… I am sure I can think up some more options too.

I tried to use my Bodhi Linux Live USB on asus windows laptop and I clicked on Try Bodhi Linux without installing and then I saw it was loading Bodhi Linux wallpaper and I thought it worked and then it went back to UNetbootin menu I mean;

What could possibly go wrong? I think UNetbootin sucks or something or it can’t create bootable live USB and I need a decent live usb maker

I just tried Rufus but the same thing happened

What’s wrong with these utilities? What tool should I try to make live USB?

Mintstick, Ventoy… I heard some did not like Etcher.

Thank you man

YES it was Etcher balena io/etcher/ I was looking for it

Now I am downloading “.ubuntu com/16.04/ubuntu-16.04.6-desktop-i386.iso” maybe Bodhi Linux isn’t compatible for live usb I don’t know I am trying

I just want to save my files on Manjaro KDE desktop

suggest also try antiX Linux
their forum will have good knowledge about older systems

@nikgnomic @lrissman

I just tried Etcher, it’s okay but ubuntu 32 bit and my other laptop 64 bit it booted but colors crashed you know what I mean

However 32 bit acer laptop will not boot, I see that little ubuntu logo loading or something like that and then black screen comes up with this flashing symbol " __ " and then shutdown itself I mean laptop

I think Manjaro KDE 32 bit did something I’m not sure

I didn’t change anything on BIOS, I didn’t even touch anything

System BIOS version: V1.18

I don’t know what to do

If you want to recover your data you need to access the data using some form of Linux

suggest maybe try getting another USB stick to make a bootable ISO with in case the one you have is no good

or else remove the hard drive from the non-working laptop and get a SATA to USB cable to plug it into a working system

If the sitck works on your other system, and you’ve tried many, is 32-bit… and fails… I think you are looking at a hardware issue. Maybe it is simple as your fan died and your system is going into forced shutdown due to overheating.

I suppose you could try a text-only to rule out a faulty graphics card, but I think this is unlikely to work better.

Either way, I still think your next best bet is to move the disk in your Acer to a working system and access it from there.

I just did a quick search on amazon for “USB hard disk adapter” or “SATA to USB” and you will find many adapters – or whatever local computer store you have – they should be $10-$20 (At least in Canadian dollars)
