Make Vimix the default Manjaro GNOME theme

theme

#1

I’ve been testing several themes. I like the Matcha one and I’ve heard is the one manjaro dev will support. Which is great. However I would like to recommend another theme that comes in so many flavors: Vimix https://github.com/vinceliuice/vimix-gtk-themes - currently you can find it in AUR and from my tests it works and looks great. And the fact that it has so many flavors it makes it, in my view, the perfect candidate for the default Manjaro Gnome theme.

From github:

Vimix is a flat Material Design theme for GTK 3, GTK 2 and Gnome-Shell which supports GTK 3 and GTK 2 based desktop environments like Gnome, Unity, Budgie, Pantheon, XFCE, Mate, etc.

Moved to #manjaro-development:feature-request #theme

Good suggestion. The beryl variant matches well.

#3

After many tests, the best theme i found to also line up for the GDM theme too is

Once is installed, you can make use of the gnome-shell-theme.gresource from the theme and use it in /usr/share/gnome-shell/gnome-shell-theme.gresource so the GDM will look the same …

The vimix icon theme is missing an icon for “software” (pamac-manager):

With Papirus-Adapta-Maia icon theme it looks fine:

#5

I think Vimix has Grub theme as well https://github.com/vinceliuice/grub2-themes and https://github.com/Se7endAY/grub2-theme-vimix

#6

Haven’t tried the Vimix icons that well. Good to know

#7

Not referring to grub theme as i don’t use one, but the GDM theme, prior to log in with the username and password in the Gnome Desktop.

#8

Ah sorry my bad I read it wrongly

#9

I asked the developer here and he says “It do have a gdm theme, I just removed the install script”

I have used Vimix for a while now and it is such a good theme and has so many design choices, I am still recommending for Manjaro Gnome. It is what I use for our project’s custom build

The theme is nice, and the fact that has the Shell theme too is a plus, but the GDM theme it seems to be hart to get right (and in this case is not present). If you log out, and use the menu there, to power off the machine, you will see the difference in the dialog, but also in the notifications/calendar.

Ok I told the developer to have a look at this thread maybe he can get involved a bit with this

Ping me if needed
