Low volume and terrible audio quality from Headset with 3.5 Headphone Jack, speakers and Bluetooth work fine

Hello,

I recently installed Manjaro on a Razer Blade 14 (coming from a Stealth 13 with Linux Mint) and the sound quality and volume from a headset plugged into the 3.5" are atrocious / unusable.

The computer speakers work great, however, and via Bluetooth the same headset works perfectly.

I’ve played around in ALSAMixer and PulseAudio, the volume for the headset is set to 100% and is very quiet, and there is no bass at all (it sounds like an old phonograph). I don’t see anywhere else I can be looking, but I’m happy to provide any useful info.

Thanks!

From your description you may need an adaptor for the headset jack like this:

Sound only if headphones are half plugged in, work fine in windows

The wiring standard can be be tested by measuring resistance across jack connections
Headphone connections would be 16 Ω or higher
Microphone would be 1,000 Ω or higher
3.5 mm Headset: Accessory Specification  |  Android Open Source Project

Headphones with a 3-pole TRS jack plug would not be affected
