Low fps on desktop after reboot or suspend

Hello,

I’ve been having an issue lately with my nvidia setup after restarting my PC. It seems like whenever I reboot my computer, my desktop fps is stuck to 60 fps until I open the Nvidia X Server Settings application. Once that is opened I get 100+ fps which is normal. Then if I suspend and resume my PC, my FPS is all over the place until I restart kwin. I’m unsure if I missed a file or setting to have my card kick in properly on boots/resumes. I have both a xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/as well as a nvidia.conf file in /etc/X11/mhwd.d.

My system specs:

Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.73.0
Qt Version: 5.15.0
Kernel Version: 5.8.2-1-MANJARO
OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2

I am currently using the 440 nvidia drivers but was experiencing a similar issue with the 450 drivers.

Anyone have an idea what I’m doing wrong? Thanks.

Are you maybe using Optimus? Maybe opening nvidia control panel would start the extenal gpu but thats just a guess.

No, from what I know I do not have Optimus on this system.

Messing around some more it seems like this issue occurs when kwin suspends after opening a game as well. I wonder if something gets stuck with kwin when you suspend it and then bogs down the performance until you restart it.
