Lost keyboard functionality after "Reset to Defaults"

Hi everyone.

I was messing around with keyboard settings as my new keyboard isn’t linux compatible out of the box.

And just to make it clear, I did not add any application shortcuts my self, so everything was as when I installed manjaro xfce (= as default).

I then pressed “Reset to Defaults” in the keyboard > application shortcuts window thinking the worst thing that could happen would be no change.

Now a lot of the application shortcuts that originally were set are now gone and I’ve lost keyboard functionality, for instance my windows key are dead.

It would be perfect if I could somehow reset the shortcuts to what they were.

Have I misunderstood something regarding the “Reset to Defaults” or is this a bug?

Best regards

See this post for information:

You can run the command mentioned at the end of the post to copy the predefined keyboard shortcuts to your home directory.
I would suggest to make a backup copy of the ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml file first.

This seems like what I need, too bad I didn’t found that my self. Will try it when I get home.

To understand what the “Reset to Defaults” does, could it be the case that it ignores what DE there is installed and just wipes out almost everything except for some basics? Seems kinda odd if you ask me.

Maybe @bogdancovaciu or someone else from the manjaro team can provide some knowledge regarding this?

Thanks a lot though @bill_t . I’m quite sure this is what solves my problem!

Is resetting to the XFCE defaults. We can’t change that, and XFCE doesn’t follow our /etc/skel files from what i understand …

I’m not sure, but I think that when you press the Reset to Defaults button, the system restores some pre-configured shortcuts from the file /etc/xdg/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml.

This file seems to contain some basic/default Xfce shortcuts.

Really appreciate your help @bill_t and @bogdancovaciu. Thanks.

My problem is almost solved. I’ve got my shortcuts back. But it is being kinda delayed. There’s a ~5 min delay from logging in until the shortcuts start working.

For instance, if I press the Super key a couple of times right after login, nothing happens. After ~5 mins the whisker menu starts opening and closing as the previously Super presses are being registered and shortcuts are now working?

I do not have slow keys turned on.

In order to get my keyboard to work properly I had to follow the instructions under “Function keys do not work” from this link:

https:// wiki.archlinux. org/index.php/Apple_Keyboard#Function_keys_do_not_work

But dunno if that would play any role in the delay.

edit: I tried to reroll what I did regarding the function keys not working, and the problem is still present, so it shouldn’t have anything to do with that.

I’ve also tried with my old keyboard which I know worked perfectly fine before all of this, and the problem is also present with that keyboard.

I’ve logged the output from journalctl -f from after logging in until the shortcuts start working:
