Logout after every login, and at certain times that I can't predict

Hello there. I’ve been facing this problem for about a month now.
On every single boot up, the first time I login (this time it logged me out twice before letting me in), I get logged out after a few seconds of logging in. It’s so consistent that I got used to it.
The real problem started when I randomly got logged out when doing some work during the session. I have no idea what triggers it.

I looked online, and found that on similar issues, the output of journalctl --boot=0 --priority=3 --no-pager is requested, so here it is:

I get the exact behaviour with a user who’s home directory is stored on the root drive, and on the user who’s home directory is stored on an external drive.
If any additional information is required, them please let me know. I would really appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

What is this “spice” group? Does it no longer exist?
It clearly states that your home directory does not exist, this could be because of the group error, it does not get mounted.
There is only one user refrenced and we do not know where you mount your 2 homes.

A peek at your fstab might be helpful.

The other user uses the folder created by default (directly on /home/USER/)

The spice group was used for interacting with QEMU VMs (like VBox guestadditions). And I haven’t used QEMU in a long time.
And interestingly, it’s not in /etc/group anymore (as you suggested). I’ll investigate this further.

When you are logged out immediately after login - it is often caused by /home/username not being available.

One could think the partition is on a separate device which has not yet been mounted when you attempt to login.

Assuming the device is an internal disk and NOT removable - change this

auto,nouser,defaults,nodev,relatime

to

defaults,noatime

and reboot

Just tried that, and it didn’t fix the problem.
After logging in the first time, I see the KDE splash screen, and sometimes my desktop loads, then all of a sudden I get logged out. I have a feeling it’s got something to do with KDE…

Like stated above in combination with your logs, “uncomplicate” the mount line in fstab.

Make sure your home is actually mounted before logging in by switching tty and checking lsblk.

Tripple check the home directories on both partitions have the correct credentials (correct owner)

A side question, do you use systemd boot?

As far as I know, when a user tries to log in, and the home directory isn’t mounted, the system jumps right out without loading anything back to the login screen.
My splashscreen (and wallpaper sometimes) is loaded, both of which are stored on my home directory.
But just to be 100% sure, I’ll reboot, switch to another TTY, login as root and check if my home drive is mounted.

No - it is your disk which gets unmounted and when it does your home is not available and the system logs you out.

You should check your disk.

Another path is to change your setup slightly

Logout and relogin as root

unmount the home disk

umount /home/abdullah

create a new data mount point e.g. /data/abdullah

mkdir -p /data/abdullah

change permissions on /data/abdullah to your user

chown abdullah:abdullah /data/abdullah

Mount your device at the new mountpoint - edit fstab

UUID=ec8e0d53-c29f-427a-884a-7982b08a48ac /data/abdullah ext4 defaults,noatime 0 0

Remount

mount -a

Copy the default skel files from /etc/skel to the /home/abdullah

cp -R /etc/skel/.* /home/abdullah

Logout and relogin as your user.

When inside your home folder symlink the Software folder from /data/abdullah into your home e.g.

I know the UMASK setting was moved in a pacnew a few weeks ago (on unstable), IIRC it is 700, your credentials are set to 770. MAYBE that could change something. But the asas home looks correct.

I was just asking about your boot because I notece there is no boot device in your fstab, but you clearly boot so I was just curious.

Could be a BIOS/MBR disk or a virtual machine using qemu - which was never mentioned but the spice group/user suggests it is possible.

Not sure how you came to that conclusion. It could be that the security checks does not go through because of how the system is booted. KDE starts, does checks, checks fail, return to login. I’m not saying this IS what is going on, but it COULD.
Never be 100% about anything without very strong confirmation.
Why would a login suddenly work after a while if it was only KDE?

This is the 3:rd person in just a few days to say this. That is very strange.

Because deepin is working just fine, and my KDE plasma settings app is messed up, duplicate tabs, settings not being applied (maybe because of deepin)

And that is not how you should use KDE, kde uses SDDM, if you install something else it is not surprising the original thing meant for that (in this case login) becomes broken.
But as I stated, I have seen multiple posts in the last few days stating “I have not installed deepin” but yet, there it is.

I mean, how could you say KDE is not working and is the sole reason for it not working, but after a few tries, it suddenly works. The logic if flawed.

I think the deepin thing is more likely to be responsible.

Yes, it was a dependency for deepin-dock which I installed and apparently it installed the whole DE with it…
