Linux noobie, really enjoy Manjaro, but I'm having weird UI lag on more than capable hardware

Which graphics driver is installed ?
Open source and the one from Nvidia ?

inxi -Fza on console.

There where it shows the drivers in the hardware configuration, it doesn’t show the open source drivers as being checked,

i recommend to use the original nvidia driver instead of open nouveau-driver. this lacks too much, same with mine 1050ti. check the wiki how to do this first

Install the Nvidia drivers from the Manjaro Settings tool, do not download and install from Nvidia website.

Sorry for the noob question, how exactly do I do this through the terminal? I’m guessing I need to both uninstall the current drivers and download the new ones through pamac?

It seems I already installed the proprietary drivers through the settings app…

I’ll try this very soon, as soon as I’m at my computer and report back!

Maybe try to configure your Compositor and Nvidia Settings (click to open the album)

you can check theses command

sudo systemd-analyze blame
sudo pacman -S htop
htop ( q for quit )
sudo journalctl -b0 -p4 ( for errors on boot current )

You have the man-db.service running for 6min! :face_with_monocle:
I think this is the culprit.

Maybe check with the smartmontools if your hard disk is developing problems, because on your machine 6min is too long.

I have an SSD…it should be installed on my SSD. Maybe I should try formatting my HDD, even though none of my Linux installation is on there?

First command gives this -

When a disk (ssd or hd) has problems, usually tends to slow down the system, even when it is not the one where the system is installed.
I would check both discs.
You can do it with the tool smartctl in the console (HERE a good tutorial) or, if you want to do it with a GUI, you can install GSmartControl with:

sudo pacman -S gsmartcontrol

If you have never done this check on the disks (or for a long time), not even from Windows, I suggest you do an extended self-test, which will last some time, otherwise a short test (few minutes) is enough.

you can remove video-linux ( only free drivers video )

sudo mhwd -r pci video-linux

In GSmartControl, my HDD shows up but my SSD shows “UNKNOWN DEVICE”, could this be a hint to the problem?

Did this just now)

I know GSmartControl had, some years ago, problems with the m.2 disks, but now it would be ok.
You can try with the smartctl command in the console:

sudo smartctl -t /dev/nvme0n1

and after a few minutes,

sudo smartctl -a /dev/nvme0n1

If smartctl doesn’t work too, maybe you could check the disk with some tool from the vendor Smartbuy (I don’t know it, so I can’t be more specific, sorry).

Anyway, check the other HDD (Toshiba) with GSmartControl/smartctl (at least a short test).
More exactly, see if the RAW values of the ‘Reallocated_Sector_Count’, ‘Spin_Retry_Count’, and ‘Current_Pending_Sector’ properties are ZERO; otherwise your disc is at risk of breaking.

I don’t know for sure if the lag problem in your system is a disk problem (mine is just a suspect), but it’s still a good idea to check your disks from time to time.

Unplug the HDD and boot, see if it solves anything instead of going through all this. Smart could still be read even if the program doesn’t know your disk.

EDIT: Share sudo inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --width to provide good system information for support, it will give more info than above (edit the initial post where you already posted inxi info).
