Line Out Not Working

Since the 2026-05-19 update, my Line Out has not been working properly. I assume this has to do with with the pipewire update from 1.6.4 to 1.6.5. I reverted my system back to before the update and the audio works fine.

I’ve tried restarting the wireplumber and pipewire services, deleting the wireplumber configuration for my user, and checking the alsamixer setup. I’ve also tried rolling pipewire, wireplumber, etc back to 1.6.4, but that did not work, so maybe something else is going on.

My headphone jack does still work and I have my speakers plugged into there for now, but I’d like to get the rear jack working again.

I suggest use alsamixer to unmute mixer controls and increase volume

alsamixer --card=PCH --view=playback

alsamixer(1) - General Controls

The Left and right arrow keys are used to select the channel (or device, depending on your preferred terminology). You can also use n (“next”) and p (“previous”).

The Up and Down Arrows control the volume for the currently selected device. You can also use + or - for the same purpose.

M toggles muting for the current channel (both left and right). If the hardware supports it

When ALSA mixer controls are adjusted to your liking, use this command save the settings:

sudo alsactl store

Settings are saved to /var/lib/alsa/asound.state and should be restored automatically when system is booted.
Settings can also be restored with:

sudo alsactl restore

I now realize that when I posted the output of sudo alsa-info.sh --upload I did have everything muted. However, using

alsamixer --card=PCH --view=playback

I think I’ve found the issue. When using the headphone jack, the Master and Headphones outputs slide up and down together. When using Line Out, only the Master changes when I adjust the volume and there is no corresponding change to Line Out. Even if I manually move Line Out up, there is still no output.

I’ll have to try reverting later and see how this behavior differs when things were working.

Had a chance to revert and compare the behaviors of the alsa mixer:

What is the expected behavior here? It seems odd to me that so many levels would be changed by the volume scroll at different times. I’m also not sure why I’m able to hear audio when the Master is still set at 0.

Changing Line Out to 100 does not fix the audio issue. I can hear a pop out of my speakers when I start to play audio, but there is no sound after that.

Just did the big system update that includes pipewire 1.6.6 and the behavior has changed.

Now when I set Line Out to 100, I can begin to hear audio once the Master volume starts to kick on at 10%. This is closer to the behavior I would expect, but not sure if that is the intended behavior. Is there a way to configure this?
