Lightdm/xfce graphical login fails probably after crash

Hello,
cannot login to graphic UI anymore. Terminal (tty) login works. However in the terminal sudo is ignored completely. Login as root works too in terminal. Most obvious ouput of journalctl is “not a user managed by systemd-homed”, “no home for user”. Also, the line containing authentication/pam contains " hostname=? addr=?". So I suppose this is something related to user management. Since it all started after a low battery crash I suppose some sort of lockfile might still be in place? However the behaviour is the same for all users, even newly created ones.

If that follows an update, possible solution here :

unfortunately not a solution here. problem came after sudden low battery power off. libxfce4ui is in place

FWIW I found lightdm to be extremely stupid with mismatching gcc-libs.
