Is there any chance, Manjaro updates Liferea to a newer version? Current release is 1.16.3 but all editions (Unstable, Testing, Stable) currently install 1.14.6-2.
I’m asking because journalctl reports a problem with the old version about python3loader
… systemd[1510]: Started dbus-:1.2-net.sourceforge.liferea@1.service.
… liferea[5044]: Failed to load module 'python3loader': /usr/lib/libpeas-1.0/loaders/libpython3loader.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
… liferea[5044]: Could not load plugin loader 'python3'

mbn can be found in the manjaro-check-repos package
So you may just have to wait until it is updated on Arch and then makes its way into Manjaro’s repos.
I was going to suggest you try installing the liferea-git package from the AUR, however the comments on the AUR (en) - liferea-git page indicate that there are currently issues with building and launching the -git version.
Thanks for the tip. It’s just that I recently made efforts to completely wipe flatpak off my system because of Xdg-document-portal.service delaying my system shutdown due to some running ‘stop jobs’. So unfortunately flatpak is not an option.
I’m curious as to how you get that from the mbn info liferea -q output? Is it because of the ‘…@archlinux.org’ email addresses?
By the way, thanks for this hint. I was searching more information for this mysterious mbn command yesterday which I didn’t know about and couldn’t find any useful information at first. I even came to the false conclusion you might have mistyped and meant man which didn’t make sense either. Upon rereading the post I finally noticed the small little hint and everything made sense.
Does this come with any consequences? I can only assume someone is getting alerted over this.
Despite the current issues, I’m not very keen on installing AUR packages if there’s a better alternative. But thanks for the tip. I’ve noticed the git version myself yesterday when checking pamac GUI for liferea.
This gives me hope there might be coming an update soon and makes me doubt it would be a good idea to ask about any progress over there which would only create stress. I think it’s best to wait and hope.
No consequences - just a flag that the package is no longer the most recent version. I also assume that an alert is sent to the package maintainer.
For all we know, the Arch maintainer may be deliberately holding v1.16 back from the repos at the moment. The recent change from v1.14 to v1.16 may have introduced one or more issues, such as a possible change in dependencies, or other problems with building/running it on an Arch-based system.
That’s possible. Based on comments over at the Archlinux page it seems the liferea build system has been changed to meson. Then there’s a comment in the Archlinux gitlab page about ‘Warnings’ when building the current version.
I’ve checked the releases page at the liferea gitlab page. It seems that all 1.15 versions have always been ‘Pre-release’ versions over the last two years and the new stable 1.16 has just been released three weeks ago.
EDIT09/09/25
By the way, there seem to be disagreements upon the moderators where my post belongs to. I’ve originally posted it to “Support → Software & Applications”, then @aragorn moved it to “Feedback → Feature Request” and @yochanan now finally moved it back to “Support → Software & Applications”
Just mentioning it because I’m impressed how serious you take this and how clean you keep your house/forum.
