Libreoffice causing CPU issues even when turned off

dear comnmunity

running manjaro linux with kernel 4.14.74 on a Asus notebook Type A54L

with the following

i3 CPU
4 GB RAM

with or without LibreOffice started i have serious behaviour on the notebook The CPU-load is allmost 100 percent. The cooler runs from 3100 up to 4300 RPMs

note: some weeks ago all was fine - i guess that the trouble started with a update of the system.

any idea what i can do - what i can test.

By the way - should i get rrid of the bug while deinstalling the Libreoffice?

see below the bug report that i have found while doing some search on the net…

here my results:

That’s what I was thinking on.

[mbb@mbb-laptop ~]$ pacman -Ss libreoffice | grep kde5
[mbb@mbb-laptop ~]$ yaourt -Ss libreoffice | grep kde5
[mbb@mbb-laptop ~]$ pacman -Ql libreoffice | grep lo_kde5filepicker
[mbb@mbb-laptop ~]$

It doesn’t exist on Manjaro nor AUR.

And the output of inxi -S as I want to be sure you’re running Manjaro.

Hey, where’d the OP get off to.

Hey, recently I experienced a similar problem on Manjaro KDE with libreoffice - The CPU was constantly running (around 10%). It truned our it was a package called libreoffice-kfilechooseror similar, sorry I am not on Plasma anymore, thus cant say the exact name, however it was a package associated with libre office file picker/chooser with kde integration.

I just killed it from the KsysGuard, and afterwards there were no problem with using LibreOffice in Plasma.

EDIT: from the link you have provided, it is called lo_kde5filepicker, but I believe in Manjaro/Arch(maybe) it has a bit different name

hello dear all - i am very very happy to be here - i see that you have noticed what kind of troubles i have.
-Well to be frank - i guess that i have made some mistakes. i took a command (somewhere in the internet ) to update the libreoffice.

And exactly after some updates last week - the problem occured.

see the following outputs:

i am turning off the notebook and hope that you post some appropiate steps that i can go…

note: to do some first steps i tried to swith of some libreoffice things in octopi . i did switch off some packages called libreoffice fresh 6,1.xy etc etx.

but this did not help either…

look forward to hear from you - probably with some commands that i can run on console to stop the libreoffice-biest…

Please answer the questions you have been asked in order to provide the information necessary to diagnose the problem.

This happens if you have gvfs installed on KDE. If you uninstall gvfs it should go away. There are other fixes that could be needed if you are experiencing problems with LO. Search the forum for further info.

Hey guys, just read the topic…

This package is Debian and IIUC , not installed on OP’s system…
or I missed something?..

You might have missed. The terminal posts on the OP suggests it comes from his system. However, considering the illusive way he handles information and the constant “I’m so glad do be here… please help me”, I’m starting to get suspicious.

All I can say is that I don’t use libreoffice-fresh and I never had such a problem. Maybe kio optional dependency is the problem. I don’t know.

@malaga
The next time you have high load post the output of top -o %CPU
You can also use libreoffice or libreoffice-still instead.

I’d like to know what mistakes have you done in order to install a debian package on your system. Stuff like that is hard to do by mistake.

AND, so it goes…

yes, somewhere over the :rainbow:

@petsam

This package is Debian and IIUC , not installed on OP’s system… or I missed something?..

ehm - no it is not nor it was installed. this was just a trace that i have followed,… in order to find out more on some possibilites.

after i have turned off the system and switched on again the temperature is lower - see below

i now try to find out what really happened.
'At the moment i have no libreoffice on the machine,…

Great, you gave us 3 times the output of the sensors temperature.

That can be a solution indeed.
Have fun!!!

I have also experienced the CPU usage of the filechooser in LibreOffice lately.
I have libreoffice-fresh installed.

I don’t know if I have gvfs (not at the machine right now), but it could be the culprit?

It only happens sometimes, but when it does, it is noticable. Killing the filechooser process(es) returns CPU to normal usage state.

@ bogdancovaciu - well this is one of the critical factors in the show.
srry for being so harsh to show that now the temp has returned to the half of max - in fact decreased over 30 degree celsius.

and for having no lo on the machine - this is not a real soltion to me.
but if you think that it is more safe to pull the wire - you can turn to poweroff by pulling the wire… - is this a solution to you. !’?!

so in fact - having a machine without any lo is no solution to me.
i am not a gamer - i need the machine to work…

@strit - many many thanks for your posting - this is very valuable - since it helps to find out what went wrong…

to sume up. many thanks to all who try to help here.

I asked you to post the output of pacman -Qi libreoffice but you ignored that. For your benefit i will post the output from my machine that never ever had issues with libreoffice:

I can have all of them opened, with the filechooser for each and there is no increase in CPU usage
