Lenovo Ideapad Y560P - Install Problem?

Only thing I have done to the laptop is to change the hdd to a samsung SSD.
First time at installing Manajro using 17.1.8 xfce.
Insert the livecd & boot up. I get this message:
“Problem fetching invariants of chip, aborting.”
It then continues to boot into the live environment & everything seems to be working OK.
Is that message anything to be concerned about? Should I keep installing?

That’s not much to go on.

I suspect that if everything is working as expected it’s a message that can be ignored.

Just have to get use to the speed of the startup now. It is fast.

I have a Lenovo Y560 myself and can´t get it to run in Manjaro at all.

Are you still running Manjaro on this notebook?
If so, could you please post the output of the 3 statements:

inxi -Fz

This y560p is running great. I have an ssd installed with manjaro & windows installed on a msata. It is lighting fast at boot.

It looks very likely Hipster is on bios-legacy and you are most probably trying to install in UEFI.
And that’s the reason he does not have any problem while you are trying to sort all these out.

Have a look here. Read thoroughly the first post and hopefully you do not have the "Lenovo tied to Microsoft’ problem, in which case, you may have to do the commands in the “Lenovo - difficult UEFI setup” section. Hopefully not. Oh… make sure you do the [UEFI -additional commands] section.

first of all - the Post of Hipster creates new hope for me as he uses quiet similar Hardware to mine Lenovo Y560 vs 560p) .

Now to the bad news - I´ve read and try to check your post gohlip, but it looks like I´m lost here. I´m a Newbee and I didn´t even know the difference between Bios-Legacy and UEFI.

No that I barely understand that a bit more, I´m not sure if this will fix my Problem, but I will give it a try.

I have a ssd in my Laptop and I only want to install and run manjaro. Right now I can´t even get Manjaro Live to run. But it looks more like a graphic driver problem.

Anyways, there is Ubuntu on this Harddrive, which can be completly deleted.
I´m Using Rufus on a Win10 device to create the Manjaro Live USB - and there a can switch how the Image is written to the Stick. I´ve tried both variants.

When Using grub> echo $grub_platform - it tells me EFI or PC, depends on which option I gave in RUFUS.

Both don´t work, I can´t get into Live system. Even trying free and Nonfree drivers, NoModeSet (which is necessary for Ubuntu to install) but in all Varaitions I can´t get into Manjaro Live.

As I don´t have Manjaro Installed yet, I´m a bit lost in your Post… and because it seemed a graphical driver Problem so far, I don´t know if this is the right path - but I´m going to walk it anyways as I´m new to linux and it helps learn something. BEsides I really want to get it to run on my Old machine here.

another Question to Hipster: Is it running stable and what´s the heat and fan like?

First you must get your livecd to boot up.
See this wiki to help you.
If using rufus, you must use the ‘dd’ part not the ‘iso’ part.
I personally do not use usb live installs so I cannot help much on this.
If you still have difficulty, suggest you search this forum for this.

After you can get the livecd to boot up, read up on the installation wiki.
If you are unsure if your system is uefi and your disk is gpt or msdos, at livecd OS terminal,
provide

sudo parted -l

when asking for assistance. I suggest you start a new topic so you can get more help.

For an older laptop this thing flies. It is very, very stable. At idle the cpu temp is 47C. At that temperature the fan does not spin. The ssd & msata helped a lot. Boot time is a few seconds for both manjaro & windows 7.

As gohlip said, start a new thread for your issues to get more people looking at it. :wink:

I just got a new laptop it had windows 10 0n a spinning 1tb hard drive I booted it up took for ages to load into windows I hada a 250 gb samsung ssd took the spinner out put the ssd in loaded manjaro onto it and zoom zoom zoom
