Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro 14ITL6 - Display Unusable

Hello

I am able to boot from the Live USB. However, the display is unusable. When ever I move my finger on the trackpad, the display re-draws and is generally broken. I have had similar issues with Live USBs from other distros including: MX Linux, and Linux Mint.

If this issue can be resolved, would really like to install Manjaro Gnome on my laptop. For information this is my laptop’s output from MX Linux. Many thanks in advance.

Hello,

That would be relevant on MX Linux forum, not here. Manjaro does not provide the

because is EOL = End Of Life = not supported.

There is a BIOS Update for Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 (64-bit) - ideapad 5 Pro-14ITL6 - Lenovo Support DE

Download the ISO from Manjaro Downloads install it, and then deal with issues one by one.
You might need to use i915.enable_psr=0 kernel boot parameter, test newer kernels, use a mouse till you manage to sort the touchpad …

Arch Wiki is having some info of it’s predecessor.

…this is for it’s predecessor in arch/manjaro, in MX it might have a different name, try out.

Thank you for the reply. I am still unable to interact with the laptop, even using an external mouse.

I am unable to update the BIOS, I tried to do this with Hiren’s, but kept getting error messages so had to abandon it.

I have found this thread, and think it might help me, but i do not understand what I need to do. Please explain the steps in a little bit easier to understand terms. Thank you.

do you installed already manjaro or are you still using the iso?
edit: it looks like you are using live usb, so add this parameter:
i915.enable_psr=0
to grub command line like this

Thank you. I did this to get the Live USB working with no display issues. I then installed Manjaro, and afterwards added the same to GRUB, to make permanent as shown on my screenshot. Does this look OK?

Does adding this parameter impact the system in anyway?

it impacts it in a way that your system becomes usable …
after you edit grub, you have to update grub with:
sudo update-grub

i915.enable_psr=0 - Panel Self Refresh (PSR), a power saving feature used by Intel iGPUs is known to cause flickering in some instances

Thank you, I did update GRUB. So I do not need to worry about my system being compromised / becoming unstable or similar due to this addition to GRUB?
Thank you for your help.

no, no need to worry, it just disables intels refresh rate powersaving …

Thank you for the reassurance. I am really liking Manjaro Gnome.
