Can you try a LTS kernel: version 5.15 ?

I have to use 5.17 because my WIFI wasn’t working, also, I use 5.17 for 2 days without any problem.

Although I think it’s unrelated to your problem described it looks like there is also a BIOS update E17P1IMS.107 available.
5.17.6 was causing some issues on my machine also. Maybe try the testing branch with 5.17.9 currently.

I will going to do the bios update, also, I don’t have the 5.17.9 kernel in the list, but I tried the kernel 5.18rc6.220509.gc5eb0a6-1 and it’s working better, but I had an “automatic restart” after 1 hour of use :/, I don’t know if there is a way to check the logs, just to look why I have that restart issue.

you can check previous boot logs… if you had the restart now, then run this command to check logs… check the last logs
journalctl --boot=-1 --no-pager

I didn’t find anything incorrect. this is the log

but are these logs from the crash?

I think are almost form the crash, but this are from the crash, I’m sure

nothing there… you could try installing the 5.15 LTS and 5.10LTS kernel and try running with them and see if you get restarts

I will, thanks!

If nothing has been mentioned at the journal and the reboot/crash happens suddenly, then I assume the kernel triggers something on the firmware (UEFI) which results in that malfunction.

So firmware update or kernel update can change that behavior.

Also: If you run it in dualboot mode with windows, then keep sure you always cold boot and not warm boot the laptop.

I did the firmware update and changed the kernel, but nothing works (that was 2 days ago), also, I always cold boot my laptop, anyways, at least today I’m not having that issue

Which kernel did you use/ switch to? 5.15 or newer 5.17?

I’m using Kernel Version: 5.18.0-1-MANJARO (64-bit) I tried 5.17.9-1 but it have the same issue

5.18 and above will be the better choice for your given hardware specs. Keep an eye on future Bios updates.

You say that the random reboots only happen while on battery, is it?
Without indication in journal logs it’s only a guessing, or you approach it with the process of elimination.

Have you checked Bios options for any power management configuration? If feasible for you, you could also try to run the system from live iso on battery with Manjaro KDE, possible try different distros also from live iso and see if it also reboots automatically after a while.

HI, the reboot happens with or without battery, how can I give you the journal logs?, also, what should I check in the Bios?, another important information, I tried pop os, and ubuntu, but I have the same issue.

To check journal logs you can use terminal or with KDE application KSystemLog. For other users here it’s easier with terminal journalctl.

List of journals per boot, starting from oldest to newest. Use the leading number for next step.

journalctl --list-boot

Examples of different log outputs for you to try:

  • Journal for current boot with message priority 3 -p3
journalctl --boot=0 -p3 --catalog
  • Journal for last boot with message priority 3 -p3
journalctl --boot=-1 -p3 --catalog
  • Journal for last boot with message priority 4 -p4
journalctl --boot=-1 -p4 --catalog
  • Journal for last boot everything
journalctl --boot=-1 --catalog

Since the random restarts happens at --boot=-1 at the end of the log you most likely will find indications of what caused the reboot when you scroll to end of journalctl --boot=-1 --catalog. Go by journal timestamp.

So it’s maybe not related to performance optimization by the system while on battery, which I thought because you mentioned at the beginning that it happens with battery only.

Do you have any reference when using it with Windows? I suppose the notebook was shipped with WIN11. Do you dualboot or have you wiped the disk and installed Manjaro only?

Have you considered that it may be related to a hardware issue?

I will going to run all those commands when the bug happens again, but for now, I’m using the 5.15 kernel and I didn’t have any restart, also, with windows I don’t have any issue, so, I think is an issue witht he 5.17 kernel

Does Wifi work with kernel 5.15?
