Laptop dies as soon as disconnect power supply

Hello,

I installed Manjaro yesterday in my DELL Inspiron 5585. I am having issue with the battery. As as soon as I disconnect power supply laptop dies.

Could anyone please help?

Probably old or broken battery. And 1451 [mAh] of current capacity is rather small in my opinion. I wouldn’t expect long working on this battery.

You can lower screen brightness and disable unneeded things like wifi, bluetooth or some programs.

Your charge_full is low: mine is 2715 mAh and my laptop is 5 years old.

If possible, you should replace your battery.

The real question is: when was the last time you could unplug the laptop and it kept on going with ${insert os} for $how long?

The last time i unplugged was before I swapped my hard drive that has windows on. I replaced that hard drive with the SSD and installed Manjaro. I was getting close to 45 mins with this battery (in windows OS), until yesterday morning.

So you have a faulty or dying battery.
Which deteriorate rapidly and can exhibit funny behaviors in any case.
(Batteries fail in an exponential way - you go from 100% to 90% a lot slower than 60% to 50%)
But even assuming (and thats a big assume) that you could expect the exact same battery time between those two instances without any sort of loss in the interim…
It could simply be that your ~45 minutes is translated on your new system to ~20 minutes because you havent optimized it as well as you could.

Taking all those things into account … it sounds like this is normal, and you need a new battery in whatever case.

Just as a matter of interest, I’ve had a battery fail at around the 50% mark, in this case no longer accepting a charge. I’d be looking for a replacement once it gets below about 75% and keep it handy (and of course charged) for when the old one becomes useless.
