Laggy system after update 02.11.2022

Hello,
First post after give or take 1 year of using manjaro kde!

Today I updated a bunch of applications via the Add/Remove Software app. During the update process I started experiencing delays/lag in either small or larger actions, etc. mouse getting stuck for 1 sec, before actually moving, freezes while typing and suddenly jumping to whole sentences of what i was writting, slow processing in opening documents - switching windows/alt tabing etc.

I thought that this was happening because of the updating process but it continued even after the updating was complete and free of errors.

I should also mention that I’m running 6.0.6-1 Kernel on an ASUS laptop.

I would really like some guidance on how to resolve this issue.

Could it have something to do with the Swap Partition? I see it’s using 99.9% of what its capable.

I currently have open, brave browser (4 tabs), 3 settings windows, 1 konsole window and thunderbird. No downloading/streaming or such, as we speak. I’ve tried restarting but this happens directly when i login to the kde desktop.

I have no idea what is draining my system of memory.
Is there anything else I could post in order to aid you?

Baloo reindexing files. Wait until ends reindexation (see with “balooctl status”) or change Baloo behaviour:

Hi there. baloo_file_extractor uses 3.0 GB of memory when it is idle as shown below: [Screenshot_20211230_160744] Sometimes it can use up to 5 GB of RAM and over 10% of CPU. This was never met and makes the computer very laggy and slow. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

Could it be because I altered the indexing settings (Added the Index hidden files and folders option) the other day? And I observed this anomaly today, because I haven’t really used my laptop for a couple of days.

Current Index status is “idle” and at 83% complete.

If I leave it as is, will it continue indexing files and folders till 100% is met or do I need to take further actions?

May be due the change you made, but it’s the second slow baloo issue I see today.

Memory issue KDE Plasma Manjaro Lenovo Ideacentre 4GB RAM

There was a very major update offered today in which my installation updated 420 packages. After this update, my Manjaro installation is sluggish, slow, and cache has swelled by 50% , RAM being consumed is much more and SWAP is also not very efficient though it is working. Manjaro is working, not freezing, but it’s just not up to the mark on my hardware after today’s update. Ultimately the solution appears to be physical upgrade of RAM. In my hardware, the maximum allowed physical RAM is 8GB …

balooctl disable

I get this respond, “Disabling and stopping the File Indexer”
but then, when I run again

top

the process is still there, still consuming every resource…

To disable the Baloo file indexer:

$ balooctl suspend
$ balooctl disable

The indexer will be disabled on next login.

Hi @CarrotDLaw, Baloo can be slow and a resource hog, yes. I suggest you change your settings in System Settings → Workspace → Search → File Search to not include file contents or hidden files/folders. Like mine: [image] Then delete the index and rebuild it. I managed to kill the process via

top

and then I used the “k” command to kill the process.

The process the disappeared!
I went on to check in the “System Settings” → Search → File Search
and the “Enable File Search” was deactivated.

I continued by re enabling the “Enable File Search”, but this time keeping the “Index Hidden FIles and Folders” option unchecked.

The process started again but this time, with normal usage, as below

I can also see that the indexing process is moving forward in good pace (%-wise speaking) in the system settings!
