KMail no longer opens attachments

Today I noticed that KMail no longer opens attachments in emails. I suspect that this was caused by one of the latest stable updates. Everything was working fine a few weeks ago. I’m sure I didn’t change anything.

Behavior:

  1. When I try to open a PDF document,Okular will open and get me the following error message:

    The text in the error message means something like “" Cannot be opened().

  2. When I open an image (jpg), Gwenview opens, but not the image.

Any ideas where I can start troubleshooting or how I can fix this?

Edit: When I start kmail from comand line I get following output:

org.kde.pim.pimcommonactivities: Plasma activities is not running:  1
QDir::mkpath: Empty or null file name
QDir::mkpath: Empty or null file name
Empty filename passed to function
