Kindle PaperWhite unusable with Calibre; sometimes disappears

When I connect my new Kindle PaperWhite to Manjaro, it appears as a device (at the bottom left of a Dolphin window) without the option to dismount; and Calibre can’t find it as a device. The Kindle sometimes spontaneously disappears.

What can I do to have a stable connection that Calibre can find?

2 points :

  • when I want to connect my tablet to Calibre, I start Calibre then I connect my tablet. And Calibre takes the precedence on the system to lock the tablet for its own use.
  • when I want to connect my tablet to simply move / copy / delete files on it, I close Calibre before connecting the tablet. Then the system can mount it and the file manager can access it. If then I start Calibre, behavior may be surprising …
Please note that I am on xfce and don’t use Dolphin.

Sounds to me like a broken or incomatible cable. Some are charging only with no real data transfer option.

My wife is using a Paperwhite and once it is connected, it appears as device in Calibre. Once connected it is rock solid.

Did you try different cables?

The suggestion to first start Calibre seems to work, and I give you a thousand thanks for it. I’ll also check out the second part.

Second suggestion: I had already checked the cables, but thanks also for that idea.
