Kernel panic after Stable Update 2022.05.23

Hi, I got a problem.

After the update, I did a reboot and got a black screen right after boot from grub.
I could not boot with my default kernel: 5.15.41-1 LTS, recommended
I got a black screen and the light of my caps lock button kept flashing on and off. I could not turn the flashing off by pressing the caps lock button. Furthermore, I waited a long time, and it did not boot.

My (imperfect) solution:
I had to reboot and boot from grub with the previous kernel 5.10.117-1 LTS, this worked, and I can use my system again.

Here is what I tried to solve it:

  • clean caches
  • reinstall 5.15 kernel
  • reboot with 5.15 kernel → same problem
  • reboot with 5.15 kernel fallback initramfs (selected in grub) → same problem

inxi -Fza

Looks like the updates module is missing doesn’t it?

can you remove

sudo pacman -Rs linux-lts-headers linux-latest-headers

why all theses options on boot ?
“init_on_alloc=1 init_on_free=1 oops=panic pti=on mce=0 slub_debug=FZ slab_nomerge”

try and check for any error

sudo mkinitcpio -P

Hold on, I’m performing a timeshift snapshot. I’ll report back in about 30 minutes. Sorry, I think it will be 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

sudo pacman -Qdt

can you check on 5.15 lts ?
and other case suppress theses options [(e)dit on grub line command]?

“init_on_alloc=1 init_on_free=1 oops=panic pti=on mce=0 slub_debug=FZ slab_nomerge"

Hi,
I still can’t boot into 5.15 after removing the linux headers.

However, thank you for your support, I think the problem is with this line
“init_on_alloc=1 init_on_free=1 oops=panic pti=on mce=0 slub_debug=FZ slab_nomerge" and especially oops=panic
but I have not tested it yet.

However, I rather just use the kernel 5.10. It works alright.

Thank you for your support.

I have similar problem with my OS, But with rather old PC configuration everything was running fine until last major update … around week ago , my pc just boots into Kernel panic mode no keys work except for hard reset … ““Kernel panic - not syncing: No working init found””
I tried to update and tried newer kernels using manjaro-chroot but nothing works. Please help … should I open a new thread ? … I am currently using Rosa linux installed on my other partition.

you should open a new thread

Do help me out here please since I have similar issue, should I open a new thread under KDE plasma support section ?

Did you try tapping shift on boot, and choose an older kernel in grub advanced menu?

Yes. I tried various kernels., I installed the 5.4LTS & 5.10 but same kernel-panic no working init found…
No keys work when its in panic mode … had to hard reset everytime so its kinda risky for me, my drive might corrupt due to that. I can chroot into the system via Rosa linux … I also tried Live Manjaro media but same thing the system works in chroot I can install or remove anything.

boot with USB live manjaro
open a terminal and a browser on this topic

inxi is not showing my system details properly, kernel parameters shown belongs to USB live media

this point , no driver Xorg for you old CPU,
it may explain why cpu reach 52 °C and Fans works at full speed 3800 ( may be check cooler systems )
with KDE are you using Xorg or Wayland ?

I agree the Cpu sometime goes upto 94 °C as my laptop is very old, Dell 1545(2010) but even Windows 10 on my other partition still works smoothly, anyways…I use Wayland and the X drivers are all installed but isn’t showing up in Inxi don’t know why … don’t understand what mess the last update on 24.05.22 did to my old PC…

SOLVED !! I can finally boot into my Manjaro KDE after nearly 15 days …

I was searching in Arch linux forums about kernel-panic error I stumbled upon on thread where the /usr/lib64 was NOT linking to /usr/lib as it should be. Thats all I restored the link and then

mkinitcpio -p linux

… thats it. Thanks to all for your kind help… I sincerely hope my little finding in future will help someone with similar issue. Thanks Team Manjaro …
