Hi @Keruskerfuerst,

Although you are not a new user and should know that isn’t nearly enough information to work with, I’ll go ahead and ask you for logs anyway:

journalctl --priority=warning..crit --no-pager --boot=-1

Where:

  • The --priority=warning..err argument limits the output to warnings and errors only;
  • the --no-pager formats the output nicely for use here, on the forum; and
  • the --boot=-1 argument limits the output to log messages from the previous boot. This can be adjusted to -2 for the boot before that, -3 to the boot before that, and so on and so forth.

More:

This is similar to your earlier topics on earlier kernels.

With all the problems you are having - one may begin to suspect it is a hardware issue.

I once had a Supermicro Workstation 5033 - it died from one day to another.

Have you checked with the vendor if there is a newer firmware available?

Have you tried kernel mitigations=off in /etc/grub/default ?

Have you tried kernel lsm=landlock,lockdown,yama,integrity,apparmor,bpf in /etc/grub/default?

Have you tried i915 in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf MODULES=() array ?

 $ mbn info linux612 -q | grep -e Version -e Branch

This may not be applicable for your system - I was just checking firmware releases and stumbled upon it.

The mainboard model X10SRA is listed among vulnerable boards where malicious software can alter the board firmware. The vulnerability was discovered back in 2018 and covered by Firmware Vulnerabilities Disclosed in Supermicro Server Products

Have you tried using the nvidia driver?

The Nvidia driver does not work well with Wayland (which I use).

That might be, probably is, something on your end. I say that because over here:

$ nvidia-smi | head -n 4
Thu Apr  3 17:27:02 2025
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| NVIDIA-SMI 570.133.07             Driver Version: 570.133.07     CUDA Version: 12.8     |
|-----------------------------------------+------------------------+----------------------+
$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
wayland

I cannot really say the same. I had a minor issue with one program using wine where some menus appeared as a black box, but it’s a program I rarely use (switching to X11 for that is inconvenient yes but I rarely need to).

Other than that I use Plasma Wayland + nvidia-open everyday, however I’m not sure if it’s compatible with your card, but I was using the proprietary also without issue. Suspend and resume seems to work correctly and I am not seeing any other show stopper bugs. Obviously your situation may be different.

  1. I should mention I’m now using kernel 6.13 but also had no problems with 6.12.
  2. I also still have nvidia_drm.modeset=1 but not entirely sure if it’s still necessary.

I am waiting for next boot failure.

This happens sometimes.

This happened not since my post here.
