Kernel 5 fails to boot, even from live usb, on thinkpad l590

Hello,

I wanted to try Manjaro on my new laptop, so I downloaded manjaro-xfce-18.1.2-191028-linux53.iso and booted it via usb stick. The kernel itself seems to boot, but then at some random point, the laptop freezes during startup of some services. It also doesn't response to pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2.

I then tried the latest arch (archlinux-2019.11.01-x86_64.iso) and got exactly the same behavior.

So still not giving up, I used an older version of manjaro, and the laptop finally booted and I installed manjaro with now using linux 4.19.81-1-MANJARO. There are some issues though which might be resolved by updating the kernel, so I'd really like to update.
All of these kernels show the same behavior:

Does anyone have any idea what could cause this or how to fix it?
I know it's very hard without any proper error message.
However the fact that it occurs on the live system basically excludes any actual configuration issue.
Is there some diagnostic which I might run?

The attached images show the boot log of different configurations (for linux54, I also tried systemd.journald.forward_to_console=1 console=tty1 as suggested in the arch wiki).

Ah, i forgot to mention that i had already disabled secure boot, iirc it was already necessary. I don't really see a fast boot configuration option in the BIOS though, there was only some boot option where you can select "Diagnostics" or "Quick", where I now selected "Diagnostics". Now I get actual information about the hardware in the first 2 seconds of booting but maybe that's all that does.

You're right, I did the update now, but it doesn't seem to change anything..

By chance I now tried the latest ubuntu live system (ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso) and it manages to boot just fine. It uses linux 5.3.

Is it possible that starting with version 5, arch added some kind of patch to the kernel which creates problems for me? Or there is some kind of fix only in some ubuntu patches?

Is not the kernel that makes secure boot to boot. Is secure boot the one that lets or not a kernel to boot. Ubuntu got a certification for that model from Lenovo

Arch and Manjaro do not have that certification. I hope this will make it more clear for you.
Also, you might have to add custom kernel boot parameters

I think I get that. But I did disable secure boot and linux 4.19 does boot here, so that shouldn't be the source of the problem.
