Lately i was having random stuttering issues in Manjaro, it seems that the cause of it is the 5.4 lts kernel, it’s performance is terrible compared to kernel 5.9, what is it that makes 5.4 lts performance so bad? It makes my system stutter randomly.
Old kernel vs newer kernel => new and better optimizations, new and better supported hardware, new and better functionalities…
Can you post some hardware info ?
I’ve got 8gb drr4 ram an i5 8265u intel uhd 620, cpupower is set to performance mode, min cpu freq is set as 2.60ghz and max as 3.90.
games or ordinary use?
Games are most likely to cause issues on any Linux distribution.
The expectations is also very much depending on the user.
Everything stutters including the gui and mouse cursor, mainly while copying files or even while browsing the web or something that isn’t actually intensive, it only happens in 5.4 lts, 5.9 works just fine.
I understand that fact but i would greatly prefer lts kernels instead of latest, stability is a great concern to me, i moved from Windows 10 to Manjaro because i had severe issues twice, last time i’ve sent my laptop to technical support for 2 weeks just to clean install Windows 10, i know it’s a bit annoying to talk about Windows 10 in here but stability is the reason i moved away from it.
I’ve been loving Manjaro so far and the forum is always friendly and helpful, helping me fix something or clean up some of my messes.
This can happen when you are using the opensource Nvidia driver - rarely using Intel - but when that happens it can be remedied by tweaking the compositor.
And because I am no KDE user - I cannot advise.
I’m using intel open source drivers, i don’t have dedicated graphics only integrated.
can you provide
