KDE Plasma : Screenshot with wayland?

Hello there,

I’m running KDE Plasma in and have Ksnap or Spectacle as screenshot tool. Both work weel in X11 session, but nor in Wayland session.

Did someone face and solve this issue ?

Thanks

I only have spectacle, and it works very well here on Wayland. :man_shrugging:

Nice. but it does not help me much :innocent:

Did you install both of those from the repositories?

I just tested:
Ksnip had issues.
Spectacle seemed to work.

But I use flameshot from the extra repository and it hasn’t failed me yet. Used it perfectly this morning.

Yes (I try to avoid flatpaks)

None does for me, either from repos (extra) or flatpak, tried

  • Spectacle
  • Ksnip
  • Flameshot
  • Shutter (displays warning “Wayland support is limited”)

Well, I can only vouch for spectacle as I’m not familiar with the others, but spectacle, being a KDE application, is definitely Wayland-ready.

Given your failure with all four of the above-listed tools, I can only surmise that it must be something very local to your computer, or possibly to your user account.

So the first thing to try would be to create another user account and see if it works there. If it doesn’t, then there must be something wrong with your Wayland configuration.

That is a definite proof of a local system issue.

I suggest verifying if the issue is persistent - that is - create a new user and make a screenshot using any of the above tools.

If you can verify the behaviour

Your system may need a full system sync from an up-to-date mirror.

sudo pacman-mirrors --continent
sudo pacman -Syu

If you cannot verify the behavior

Either - hunt down the offending configuration file(s) by hand
Or - run the script provided at Applications / Manjaro Plasma Reset · GitLab

I recommend always manually updating the mirror list before every bundled update, whether it be Stable or Testing, and it might be even more relevant to periodically run this manually on the Unstable branch, given the higher frequency of individual package updates permeating that branch.

And, yet, it does.

I have no issue with Spectacle under Wayland, and to the best of my knowledge, no other reports of such issues have been submitted;

This tends to suggest, as both @Aragorn and @linux-aarhus have indicated, that the issue is related to your local environment. So, it does narrow it down.

The only actionable suggestion at this time is to create a new user account to test whether the mentioned applications work (or not) in a fresh state.

Yours truly,
The Parrot :parrot:

Let’s see …

  • New user is affected, spectacle notifies “Remote peer disconnected” and ksnip does not start.
  • Mirrors and package are up to date
  • Plasma reset script did not help
  • Everything’s working in X11 session

Have you seen this post with a possible fix:

(Edited to fix typo)

I usually like to understand what I do …

Well tried anyway, ksnip still doesn’t work, and Spectacle only works on “main screen” (I have 3)

This appendum might have been more useful earlier in the topic. Do the other applications mentioned work as expected when only using one (“the main”) monitor, or do they also not work at all?

Perhaps describe how you have the other monitors connected; System information might now be relevant;

Regards.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

This appendum might have been more useful earlier in the topic. Do the other applications mentioned work as expected when only using one (“the main”) monitor, or do they also not work at all?

Couldn’t give it before, as it’s a result of replacing libva-nvidia-driver by libva-nvidia-driver as suggested by Phemisters, none did work at all before that (but I still don’t get what I did replacing the driver). I only found Spectacle to work on primary screen, ksnip doesn’t.

It’s a laptop (ThinkPad P1 Gen 3), so the primary screen is the laptop’s one, and the two additional screens are connected to a ThinkPad TBT 3 Dock (thunderbolt)
